C4 color scheme.. thoughts 🤔

Hello! My 87 is coming apart for paint very nicely. It originally was a Dark red Metillac (very commen for 87) and I'm keeping it.... slightly the original color, i want them to take that beautiful gm code (36... correct me if I'm wrong) and add alittle more of a copper hint, I hope it comes out nice and still is close enough to original it keeps its value! Any thoughts? Also I'm going to do the handles in chrome and likely the black that lines the window. If I don't like this it can easily be painted back... (compaired to the ENTIRE car) https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...92e2b5f519.jpg

My thoughts would be Copperhead Pearl Metallic (custom PPG color) with a dark tinted roof and black wheels with a machined lip...and some chrome exhaust tips!

when i say "custom" i mean it's exclusive to PPG but it is a color that they can make and anybody could make actually.

Since you asked, I would probably go through a paint book and try to find a factory color for something (vette or not) and use that. The reason being, if it is damaged or you wish to update some new part of it to match, or if you run out of paint and need more? It will be much easier to get some mixed up to match a factory color than a one off custom color..

Good luck!! (Mine looks like that right now.. So, I have total sympathy for how much work it is!)

There is an 84 for sale in nearby Las Vegas. Is this the color you are going for?

The copper is really beautiful, it be a clone of the "87" copper corvettes made in 87. I may go for that, I am not 100 percent sure yet. It's beautiful, but I am still afraid to switch from factory color. Value wise how much would it hurt? And as for the strip down of the vet, what's a pain their is near six coats of paint on it, covered in micro cracks so I am taking it all off.

Hi
I painted my 1984 corvette 1986 copper.

mark970 07-17-2017 11:07 AM

it turns out the Copperhead Pearl Metallic that Stacy David helped create with PPG is now a licensed Dodge color (or its very similar)

here's a link to a beautiful paint job that looks AMAZING with both Black and Chrome accents/hardware/wheels

https://trainhornsdelivered.com/blog...-10-copperhead

i was actually going to paint my 70 chevelle this and ADD a black vinyl roof (yup, ADD a vinyl roof to work along with this beautiful copper paint) and then get chrome wheels...not to mention all the chrome already on a car like that.
it would have been nice looking...but it was turning into an expensive project so i sold it

Adding extra copper spins the color for every lighting angle.
IMHO try to go with more red than copper.

With the sun at high noon, the metallic would pop bringing the cooper out dramatically.

door jams arent a big deal..i did a color change and you couldnt even tell once the car was all put back together...just take the time to tape things off and remove as much from the car as you can (carpet, panels, glass, seats ect...)
here's an example of a color change that i did on my 96....

Kdeman1 07-17-2017 11:43 AM

Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful! Mines a crazy project right now... but I'm doing it right. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...2d29c55aec.jpg

Confab, did you say what color you are painting your car? it's (was) red correct?

Kdeman1 07-17-2017 12:02 PM

Yep I'm going with Sherman williams base, clear! My goal is to have it done by the woodward dream cruise!! If it isn't done... I'll drive it like that 😂 I can't miss another year in the cruise! I'll soon be ready to prime the car,

Yeah.. "Victory Red" You see it on the Chevy Trucks a lot.

It's a flat color, though. No flake in it.

IMVHO, if you're going a metallic in your garage or under less than ideal conditions in general, basecoat will REALLY facilitate that over single stage.

You make a mistake? Scuff it and rebase. Dirt? Scuff it out and rebase. Flake looks weird? Scuff and crosscoat.. With basecoat you can get a metallic color perfect, then clear it..

At least for me, it's a lot easier to get a pro looking job with metallic colors.

But, to each his own..
