why not C7?

I'm asking in this forum the opposing question of my ask in the C7 forum. Currently I have a 07 Z51 3LT vert. Looking at moving up to either a 2012 or 13 GS or go up to a C7

I'm sure some of you have had this in your head debate...... What held you back from the C7?

Went from 12GS vert to a 14 C7 vert and back to a 13 GS vert.
C6 is bigger inside, easier to get in and out of. Passenger side is much smaller than the C6. Trunk space is larger (even for a vert).
C7 was a pain when I would accidently push some button on the steering wheel and change the dash configuration. Did not like the stereo set up for selecting various inputs or songs or stations.
C7 had better top operation. Liked the C7 mirror tilt in reverse. Loved the front end look. Liked the idea of A/S runflats available for the car.

I test drove a few and it was a nice ride. I don't like what I am reading about the A8 but other then that, I might pick one up some day. I have too much work/mods in my current C6 that I just can't bring myself to part with it.

yes some of the problems are of concern.... I was looking yesterday and one Carfax had 2 A8 replacements on it....

Honestly...I have no need or desire for a different car at this time. I am not one of those people that feel they have to run out and get the latest and greatest every time something new comes along. Learn to be content and have joy with what you have, otherwise you will be chasing happiness in "things" all your life and you will never find it except maybe temporarily, then its off to the next new thing. Now, if you are having frequent problems with you current car, and the costs of fixing and repairing are starting to add up...that's a different story.

What he said, :iagree:
If you are thinking of an a-8 I suggest reading the 9 pages about that trans in the C7 section. Don't want that headache

$$ held me back. When I bought my 2011 GS I was actually looking at C5's at around 20-$25000. But my diagnosis of prostate cancer pushed me up quickly into a higher w.t.h. $ money mode. So I went with my c6 GS.

I'm definatley already thinking C7 sometime down the road.:yesnod:

But the look of a GS wide body and wide wheels and tires have spoiled me so that when I get a C7 it will have to be a wide body.

BadAV 07-22-2017 11:31 AM

Didn't care for the smaller interior of the C7. I also like the looks of the C6 GS better than the regular C7. I was not ready to turn loose of C7 Z06 money; the C7 GS was not available when I bought my Centennial GS vert.

Indifferent?

I have been on the fence since the C7 came out. Some things I liked, some I didn't. I'm not to crazy about the variable valve timing on the C7, but 460 hp is nothing to sneeze at. To me the C6 has classic looks and I think it will be one of the most sought after in the future. Just my opinion! But the other day I was at a shopping mall and there was a bright red C7 base coupe sitting there. It reminded me of those pictures you see where everything around it was in black &white and there it was, shiny bright red and it was beautiful! I actually like the base C7 better than the Z06 or even the GS, it is cleaner looking. And yes, I even like the taillights! I haven't driven one yet but I did sit in one and it definitely seemed more cramped. So I guess I'm warming up to the C7, just not sure if I'm ready to part with the C6, which I think is still great!

Dano523 07-22-2017 12:28 PM

Because you figure that the C8 will be producing 600~800HP and this is going to force them to have to deal with the car with this amount of HP.

Hence on the c7 z06, the motor is so TM hobbled to make it drive-able, it not funny.

The C8's will have even more HP, so mid engine is coming, even better handling and braking, as well as maybe some down force on the cars finally too (z07 is about as neutral as you get with the vet, but still has lift).

Tail lights and too many rough surfaces on the outside of the car.

GrandSportRob 07-22-2017 02:07 PM

Here's my list: 1) The ugliest rear end in Corvette history. Dont tell me the round lights are dated bs since Ferrrai does it and it looks great. 2) Cramped interior. Not a fan of the C4 swooped dash or the lack of room. 3) Cylinder deactivation. I do not want this garbage along with direct injection. 4) 8spd auto has been a disaster for GM in the Vette and all other product lines. 5) The car is too busy with so many angles and lines, nothing flows smoothly. 6) Quality issues still with 17 & 18s. This far in the model year there shouldnt be paint or mechanical issues(topics in C7 gen).

To all of you who don't care about any of these issues good luck with your purchase. I for one am happy with my trouble free 13GS and have bought my last new Vette.

Red Devil Z51 07-22-2017 02:19 PM

Me i'm just facing facts my 07 Z51 3lt is in almost perfect condition for a 10 years old car with just 20k miles on it . It does really well at any show i enter and it is PAID for. So i can't see any reason to buy a c7 and start all over again from scratch. Of course if some 1 just walked up at a show and offered me a ridiculous amount for it that might make me part with it.

cv67 07-22-2017 03:57 PM

outside of lack of funds :D
the fact they are still electronic nightmares
have crappy paint
still cant get an automatic right
us tall guys dont fit well.

But they are fast, will settle for pictures .

Really wanna like these cars, just cant

I hung out a while in the C7 section. I was never really interested in the C7 due to styling but figured it still wouldn't hurt to listen in. Buy the end of almost 2 years of lurking in C7 general, I was convinced there were going to be issues. And as it turns out, most of the things I was worried about have surfaced. Namely poor QC, bad A8, AFM, small cockpit, poor rear view vision, tires way to susceptible to cold temperature damage, engine and running gear cooling, to complicate electronics, and finally cost. In addition to that, the C7 "fanbois" were absolutely the most childish immature folks I had ever run across. I had not blocked any members before my time in C7 gen., buy the time i left I had blocked about 8 or so posters. Since my return to C6 territory, nobody has been blocked.
If I buy a new Corvette ever again, it wont be a C7.

Huskerman 07-22-2017 04:18 PM

I was just thinking the other day what would it be like to have a new Z06...? Was up to the Black Hills to the Classic and saw a ton of new Z06's running around. So the thought process took off........Well I would owe some money on one after I sell my 10 GS, so monthly payments. .....then there would be the sales tax which would be nasty.......the insurance would go up a lot I'm sure.....license plates would be a bitch every year in this State...... then there are the fitment issues and the A8 thing because my wife wants to drive it more.... :ack: yeah honey....650 horses......yikes!

So I looked at my great looking good fitting C6 6M 400 hp to the rear wheels Grand Sport that has all the things on it I really like and its all ready for that Supercharger if I really feel the need for speed.....and I can just enjoy it until it has 100K plus and then see what is up with the new ones....I am content with where I am at.......right now......3 years down the road we shall see.....

Nice95gle 07-22-2017 04:39 PM

The main reason is price. I've learned that corvettes don't hold their value. So I'm waiting a few years.
Plus the VY 427 I have. Still gets more attention at the dealer when I'm in for service than all of the shinny new C7's. And that includes the Z06 and GS models. I'll chalk that up to...the 427 is not a car they see often.

Other than that, most of my other reasons were mentioned above in previous post.

But the C7 is one damn beautiful car. There is no denying that.

In a few words, the look of the body, too many sharp lines & the infamous tail lights, looks like a transformer car to me. Real Corvettes have round taillights

I had reservations at first when the C7 came out. My interest was in the Z06 a year after the C7's debut. What held me back was the cheap looking plastic fender spats and the black valence panel in the bumper. I went back and forth on my decision for two more years before I finally pulled the trigger on a 2017 Z06. I did not give up my C6 convertible, though. Bought it new in 2006 and still enjoy it every time I take it out for a drive. The C7 Z06 is a beast and to me, a nice upgrade.:flag:
