Split Window, Right ?

"You have a Corvette ?"

"Yes, it's an older one."

"Oh sure, like the shark ones."

"No this is an older one, it's a '66."

"Cool, the convertible one ?"

"No, it's a coupe."

"Oh yeah, the old split window."

"No, I have the one piece glass."

"It's that swoopy fastback one, right ?"

"Yes, I guess you could say that."

"Cool, that's the split window."

"Actually, they made the split window for only one ... Yeah, that's what I have."

"Cool, that's what I figgered."

That's funny:rofl:, and true.

I had a guy make conversation with me who told me he had a 67 Coupe. Told him I really liked those, that it was the best (in my opinion) of the 63-67 cars. "Yep, it had a 454 that I ordered it with fuel injection specially made . It got beat up in a hail storm, and I didn't want to have all the dents taken out, so I sold it"

Fixed.

The same guy with money won't care if the trim plate says white and the car is red.

You just summed up every conversation I have with each quick jaunt to the kids school to pick them up after practice, the short trip to the liquor store, or any other non car show destination that I find myself discussing my 66.

This tells me a couple of things. 1. These cars (C2) have achieved icon status even among the novice car person. 2. The "split window" description has taken on a life of its own as the go-to phrase to describe a mid year.

I agree.

I have had people at a car show ask me if my '63 Convertible is a "split window".

And these people have families, drive on our streets, and vote.

When I had my 60 a guy called it a split tail.

I occasionally put this license plate frame on my 63 convertible.

Says: SPLIT WINDOW PARTS CAR :D

Some people who aren't car people just can't help trying to be car people. It's just as bad in the Mopar world. People ask if my GTX originally came with a 383 (no) or tell me about their buddy who owned one back in 197someting and it would do 150 mph. Yeah - if it was falling off a Cliff.

No. The metal Vette that year was made of magnesium.

These conversations are the main reason why I haven't taken any of my cars to a show or cruise night in 10+ years....I just don't have any patience for this kind of dialogue. I get my fill of under-informed and clueless people in corporate every day, no need to interact with them in my free time.

I had this happen to me, once. I wasn't offended in the least but I was glad I had the top peeled back enjoying the sunshine.

:D

Front license plate.
Rear license plate.
Guess what I get asked the most?

MikeM 08-10-2017 05:25 PM

Mid year Corvette coupes should have been sold with a Sawzall included to peel the top off so you can get some fresh air.
