Power Window Question
Need help please
Passenger front window goes down fine, but stops intermittently when trying to raise window back up, and then makes a clunking noise. If I grasp the window glass and gently pull up, it will then come up all the way with the motor. I have the door liner off and I can see that when it makes the noise, the large metal gear on the motor that contacts the window regulator lifting mechanism is not moving so I am wondering if it could be an internal noise (vs. external) in the electric motor itself, perhaps requiring motor replacement. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated as I am trying to repair this myself without involving the dealer. Thank you, Kurt PS: This problem is with my "other" car but I am asking on this forum because people on the Corvette Forum respond 100 times faster than any other forum. Thanks in advance. |
First, check your battery voltage, and see if it is low, then continue on to the motor

Thank you
Will check the voltage today and then possibly swap out the motor and see if that cures the problem. Kurt |
Voltage should be at least 12.6. At 12.volts the battery has 50% capacity.
D.C. Motors by not like low voltage. |
Voltage 13.8 at idle, 15.6 at high idle and still could not raise window without help
Is it possible the gears inside the motor have stripped? I know on my 68 Corvette, the gears inside were plastic, not sure if this German car is the same as I have not taken motor apart. New power window motor is $681 from dealer. |
