Windshield replacement advise

During my recent 6K road trip I had two rocks hit my windshield and would appreciate any referrals of good shops to replace it. Also, if there is any considerations I need to impart upon the repair person I would appreciate that info as well. Thanks much in advance for any replies !

The first question is, does your insurance policy cover it? My policy that I have with Allstate covers it. They contract with Safelite. Actually, Safelite is coming to my house this week to replace mine. I also got hit by a nasty big rock during my vacation this year.

I recently had my truck done by safelight, lifetime warranty. Asked him about the corvette. I have the heads up display and he said he's done it but make sure they install the special glass. No Chevy dealer required.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think about the heads up display and special glass.

I read somewhere that AZ registered cars are covered without deductible but wanted to wait for recommendations/info before contacting the insurance company (Progressive).

Luckily, you don't have to think about it. The repair person would determine the glass by your VIN which would direct them to the HUD glass. The consensus is that Safelite does a fine job. The HUD glass you receive will be from the same source as the factory glass except that the GM logo will be scratched off. Much cheaper for the shop to buy the glass from the supplier without the logo, rather than from a GM dealer.

Some "off brand" windscreens may have the HUD as "blurry." Just fyi.

My glass installer does all of the Corvette dealers. He said to make sure the alignment posts are removed from the glass prior to install. Otherwise you run the risk of a stress crack later if they aren't perfectly aligned. That's what happened to mine when I had it replaced the first time by another company.

Safelite is who replaced the windshield in my '11 GS with HUD. It was fairly new so when I said it had to be OEM they agreed. At the time they didn't have those arm install tools so I went to a local shop. They did än outstanding job and you couldn't even tell it had been replaced.

Check out this post I made last year when I had mine replaced. Great results. Includes pictures of windshield markings from the stock and new windshield (same minus the GM logo)

My 16Z's windshield was replaced by Safelite while I was in Detroit 2 weeks ago. Their price was $845 out the door, but when someone on the C7 Z06 forum posted that insurance would cover it, I called my agent who said it was covered. The new one has GM and HUD on the lower right corner. The paperwork I saw said they charged the insurance company $645.
