Help. Eaton tru trak.

95 c4 Dana 44. Bought a eaton tru trak. Cannot get the snap rings on the axles. There seems to be not enough room to fit the snap rings over the axles inside the tru trak. Help please. Thanks.

Make sure you are pushing the stub shaft in all the way.

Another thing is that there are different thickness retaining rings for the D44.... They are how you control stub shaft end play..... Your current retaining rings may be too thick to work in the new Tru Trac.

You can figure this out by sliding the stub shaft in and measuring the amount of the shafts retaining groove is sticking through the side gear with feeler gauges and comparing that measurement with how thick your retaining ring is.

I usually have the snap ring expanded inside the case with the pliers, then slid the axle into the ring.

..... ^^^^^ ... This ! ... Its the only way that I have ever been successful at getting the axles installed ... but nobody said it would be easy ... also a good idea to follow Reckless's suggestion and measure the snap ring groove just to make sure you have a snap ring that will fit after all the cursing is done ! .....

I had to use thinner snap rings on the side shafts when I switched to the Tru-Trac. Got them from Tom's

BTW - helps a lot to have a heavy-duty pair of snap ring pliers.

I get what you all are saying. I mean the snap ring won't even sit down into the housing fully.
