'96 Intermittent Wipers Issue
 

Hey all,

Having an an issue with my wipers in my '96 that is perplexing me.

They kept blowing the fuse so I removed the arms and service panels to get a better look.

- It appears that when the intermittent request is sent the motor clicks, does nothing, and then blows the fuse. If I turn it to intermittent and then off again quick enough the fuse does not blow and the motor moves, but does not rotate.

- If if I turn them to full on, low or high, they shift out of the home position and rotate as they should no problem.

- If I use the mist function, turn down and release, I have to hold it for 2 seconds or so to get them to rotate. Otherwise if I just turn down and release they flinch but do not come out of home position and rotate.

Hoping someone here has had this issue and can point me in the right direction. Don't really want to take the assembly all apart just for fun.

Don't have the wiring diagram, but going off of my electrical background, fuses obviously blow when there is too much current drawn. Electrical motors have a startup surge amp they need to pull which is higher then operating amps. This start surge request by the motor will always happen when in intermittent mode as the motor is not energized while in the wait state.

Since the fuse is blowing when first starting I would suspect the wiper motor is going bad or something is not allowing the wipers to easily move requiring the motor to pull more amps at startup.

Well, I think I figured it out. Intermittent circuit in the back cover is fried.

Oh well. Off to find a replacement.
