grounding problems
my 79 corvette gauges and tach have quit working. When you now cut the headlights on the buzzer wont go off. Any sugguestions

There is a bolt that holds the ground tabs on the drivers a pillar. Its right up above the hood release, its likely loosing connection. For the lights its a little black box with four tabs that plugs into fuse box. It sounds like corrosion troubles all around. My vette was the same way, they leak water through t-tops or pillars, car gets wet inside, condensation forms on all metal parts and everything corrodes causing connections to fail everywhere. The best is when the buzzer for lights and seatbelt wont turn off....hahaha. Its all from bad connections from corrosion.

Why assume that it is a ground problem ...because the tach and gauges use the gauegs fuse in the fuse panel and it can be blown.

DUB It was assumed a ground problem from the title of post..."grounding problem" , so i assumed they couldnt get a ground reading on clusters or couldnt find a ground connection for harness. |
I agree... that is what the thread started out by inquiring about....a 'grounding problem'. But no need to hunt for ground wires and connections IF the power source has not been confirmed to be there.
RULE OF THUMB: Always check the fuse of the circuit in question first. DUB |
I know what your saying...alot of people automatically assume its a ground. I myself would check for power as well. For everything to quit out of the blue is a sure sign something isnt makiNg a connection somewhere, whether ground or power, hence why i pointed them to harness ground tabs. It sure wouldnt hurt anything to freshen up those ground connections on a 40 year old car that has almost garanteed to have gotten wet in its lifetime. These cars are worste than a FORD for ground connections!!! Hahaha well ALMOST...LOL
