So what do you do when...

Someone asks to borrow your Vette? I went to HS with this guy but I probably haven't seen him since then, maybe several years ago. I couldn't just flat out say no.

Exactly.

Kevin A Jones 09-21-2017 08:01 PM

That's a request I wouldn't be surprised to receive from a brother or close friend, but not from someone who I just went to HS with and hadn't kept up with since.

Nice of you to say yes, But...........

Wait until the word gets out, you will have to make a reservation just to drive your own vette on weekends. :willy:

chronage 09-21-2017 08:01 PM

How generous of him to leave his beater with you

Ron'sGS 09-21-2017 08:04 PM

You haven't seen the person in several years, but he asks to use your car....?
Not to be mean, but my answer would be ..ll NO! Whether it was my corvette or another car.:hide:

My opinion of course, but like other's have said he could go rent one.

sunsalem 09-21-2017 08:08 PM

I would ignore such a request.
If they persist, I would tell them to go buy/rent one.
It's a pretty arrogant to ask to "borrow" somebody's very expensive Pride & Joy.

I couldn't just flat out say no.
Yes you absolutely can. Someone you barely know wants to borrow your car. Vette or not the answer is a flat no.

guido7834 09-21-2017 08:17 PM

And for a wedding no less. Where he'll probably be drinking it up...I don't think so...:crazy2:

walker3 09-21-2017 08:18 PM

i am asked - I just laugh and smile - and if thy persist I ask them to leave my X$ just in case - then they say no :)

sTz 09-21-2017 08:18 PM

I can't count how any times someone said, "I'd love to take it for a spin, but I can't drive a stick."

Not sure if this is applicable to your situation, but it's another benefit of owning a manual

Edit: If he wants to pull up posing in something nice, tell him to rent a limo. :D

Well he's supposedly a pastor or some kind of religious background so I doubt he's a heavy drinker. But these days, you never know lol.

It's an auto so unfortunately I don't have that problem. If they asked to take it around the block or a trip out on the town, and I was in the passenger seat, I'd be perfectly ok with it. I could coach them on how to get in and out of driveways without scraping or telling them to watch out for that pot hole. But if I can't see it, they can't drive it. :D

red62vette 09-21-2017 08:27 PM

Just tell him you don't like to lend out your car.

I would not say I don't like to loan my Corvette, I would tell them straight out I don't let anyone else drive it. Friends know not to ask, and I never ask to drive anyone else's.

lakemg 09-21-2017 08:32 PM

Just tell him no and not to take it personal because you don't even let relatives drive it...

pickleseimer 09-21-2017 08:40 PM

I would be concerned about insurance issues. Regardless of who may be at fault in an accident, your insurance company may balk and anyway I'd not want anything on my insurance record.

Steve Garrett 09-21-2017 08:41 PM

No, no, no, no, no.........

The guy really has a lot of nerve to even ask.

Wjereb 09-21-2017 08:47 PM

I would tell him like I tell everyone else. I’m an only child, I never learned how to share and I never intend to learn and keep your hands off my stuff. Corvette, Harley, etc.

I don’t let my daughters drive my Vette.

Rave 09-21-2017 08:55 PM

I'm with Bell. Your friend has a lot of gall to even ask.

Har-ray 09-21-2017 09:05 PM

Ask him if you can borrow his wife.
