McLeod Muscle Car 5 Speed
Hi All,
Don't know if you are aware, but there is a new player in the 5 speed transmission market. McLeod back in 2013 introduced this tranny, but then removed it due to problems, it is now back. I contacted them about this tranny and the following is their reply: Yes we have transmissions in stock. However we have never worked directly with a C3 corvette to give real world data as to what is required. I can tell you the same thing I tell all customers interested in this transmission. You will need the following. If you have mechanical speedometer you will need a speedometer reverser p/n 512958. http://www.mcleodracing.com/index.ph...-reverser.html Our transmission is ½” shorter than a Muncie. You will need to have a longer driveshaft made. Our yoke is a 32 spline, same as a turbo 400 transmission. Our inputshaft is 1-1/8 x 26 spline. The shifter is in the centerline of the transmission. If you need the shifter to go through a console, then you will need to purchase an offset sub-assembly that will put the shifter in the location you call out. The sub-assemblies are roughly $150.00 additional. I hope this helps. Just thought you all might be interested. I have no vested interest in this company or product. |
Interesting option. Who is going to be the first to put one in a C3.

Are These Mc Leod 5 speed Units stronger than the Tremec ones? What is the Advantage? Thank you!

Like. At initial glance it looks like they took aftermarket WC T5 gear sets and put in their own proprietary case. I see nothing wrong with that and keeps costs lower.

I don't see this as another option, since there are a few complete TKO kits for C3, + T56 Magnum 6-speed kits for C3.
Its doesn't solve the shifter location , drive shaft angles , COST $$$ similar to a T56 Magnum. Don't know if it will ever shift as well as a T56, Low Torque rating = TKO 500, This looks like were we were 5 - 7 years ago with the TKO's. They should have done more research to see were the market is today and not be 7 years behind. Today people are ready for complete kits ! and nothing short of that. |
I'd go for it if I can install it without cutting my crossmember or making other modifications.

Their text about that trans says it's an internal rail shifter, but the pictures show a rail between the lever and the main body of the trans. Am I missing something?

This is probably a tube for the shaft to travel through.
