Is this board monitored by GM?

"policed" meaning??? What exactly?

I'm not certain why anyone would find it 'disturbing' if GM or Chevrolet monitored the activity on this site. All responsible companies monitor social media for several good reasons. Surveys and such give some input with regard to product perceptions, etc. This forum gives additional data for input into quality, perceptions, etc. All of the inputs are biased in different ways, but inputs nonetheless.

I also wouldn't use the term 'policing'. The rules and activities on this site and the forums are not driven by corporate entities.

I don't think there is anything that the moderators need to disclose at all. The corporations are free to monitor these sites just like all of us. Sometimes it will be done under a corporate name (such as Chevrolet Customer Service), and often under personal accounts.

I don't care if they're on here. In fact, I hope they are. In the past we used to see much more activity from Chev Cust Service, but that seems to have stopped. I think it stopped, or slowed down, in part because a few forum members were a bit over the top in their rudeness, but also because I'm not certain their involvement really helped in many cases.

I'm not sure what your beef would be??

To say "policed" is absurd. GM has no power here. It may be "monitored" once in awhile. I know lowly 'customer service' people will pop up now and again, but we collectively heap scorn and abuse on them, so they don't stay long. It's not really worth their time. There's really nothing to disclose.

A while back the Chevrolet Customer Service Center used to chime in with forum members having service issues. Not so much lately for some reason.

I doubt anyone officially looks through this forum. Maybe they should! Lack of properly handling major customer issues destroy customer confidence in a brand. Example: how they are handling the A8 issues identified here. Example after example show that not promptly handing customer dissatisfiers destroy brand loyality that costs millions or tens of millions to rebuild.

They don't assign people to spend their time looking at these types of boards or send people to race tracks to monitor who is racing the car or not. That would be far too costly to spend the money on those kinds of salaries for little to no gain. No need to tape your license plate when you are at an HPDE either. Nobody gives a crap whether you are there or not.

"Policed" by GM? Absolutely not.

Because there is nothing to disclose. The forum is in no way supported by or controlled by GM.

If you are implying that GM has "used the forum" in some way to the detriment of someone, then all I can say is it is a public forum and ANYONE can read posts. There is no expectation of privacy on a public forum.

I think 'policed' was a poor choice of a word on my part. "Monitor" might be a better choice.
That said, I see people on here modifying their cars and discussing it on a "public" forum. I didn't think much of initially.
Then I had a post deleted. It made me wonder....

Made you wonder what, exactly?

If GM wanted to void someone's warranty because they talked about their modification in a forum post, why would GM then want to delete that forum post, and remove good evidence for the warranty void?

Or are you saying that GM wants modification posts deleted so that others don't get ideas about modding their cars?

The thing is, this is not a particularly good place for GM to gather customer service information. They are the size of a small country. My guess is that they can derive much more accurate information from the metrics they keep on repairs from around the world, far more so than listening to the likes of Josh and Black&White or the rest of us insult each other on this board. I doubt a business case could be made that would justify monitoring this. Indeed, I suspect that has already happened. 'Customer service' used to show up here with some Happy Talk, and they were greeted with hoots and boos. I think they gave up getting anything useful off this place long ago.

Think we should all be VERY careful about talking about modifications of cars under warranty.
Additionally, this 'public' forum is funded by advertising for many products that violate such warranty. This creates a pretty clear conflict of interest imo

You do know, I assume, that this entire forum is dedicated to every year of Corvette, and that the vast majority of people here own cars that haven't had a warranty for many years, right? This isn't just a C7 forum, it's a Corvette forum. Last I looked, nobody forces anyone to buy anything from an advertiser here, or to modify their car such that the warranty is voided.

Thinking about what you post on any social media is always good advice, whether it's about your car, your family, or anything else.
