New Custom Seat Conversions for C5 and C6 Coming Soon!

We will be releasing soon our custom seat backs for C5 and C6 Corvettes. These will be ideal for people who don’t want to install a racing seat in their car but need better support for track days, other driving events or just spirited driving.

These will be direct replacement seat backs and will bolt to the oem bottom using the stock hardware. We eliminated the cable that allows the back to flop forward instantly but the seat back angle will still adjust from the factory lever.

We will begin work on the cover and these will be patterned to match C5 or C6 patterns. We will provide a matching cover for the stock bottom with each seat back and can add a sub belt opening if needed. We will post pictures later of how to install those. We will offer upholstery in simulated leather, real leather and suede as well. You will be able to choose your stitching color, as well as other options in the works.

The pictures below of the prototype are rather aggressive. We will also make these with a wider flare to the side bolsters for drivers who might find these too snug. If you had an air bag in your stock seat back, you will loose that, if that matters to you.

To help show what we mean by upholstery with stock patterns, you can see seats we did with a different back years ago below. We can do horizontal or vertical stitching and various panels widths as needed.

Let me clear up any possible confusion by the word seat "conversions" in the title. We do not use any oem components of the seat back so there will be no need to send us anything. You will be able to keep the entire stock back assembly in one piece with cover and convert back to stock at any time (such as when selling the car). Our back is a simple bolt on with the same two stock bolts that attach the oem back.

The reason I called it a conversion was to help people realize they will get to retain the stock tracks, bottom and seat belt system. I apologize for any confusion.

this looks quite interesting, I have been thinking of pulling the trigger on at least a replacement seat for the drivers side, seat has almost no support and back is kind of floppy too.

Will these seats have new foam for the base or are we just reusing existing foam? or replace with what is in the marketplace for seat rebuilds now?

cmonkey713 10-17-2017 11:48 PM

What are you thinking cost wise?

JerriVette 10-18-2017 06:42 AM

So basically the seat comes out...we bolt up the new seat back with two bolts and we now have a seat that olds us in place..

The seat rebuild kit for the seat bottom is simple as hell to install I did it two or so years ago....took about a half an hour of time to do and it keeps the seat springs from sinking into the foam...no need for new seat cushion foam once installed...

I want the seat back you are designing to hold me properly in the seat while cornering...

Two bolts for the install of the drivers side and I'm good to go...

The seat back still has the ability to fold forward with release of a latch? It just looses that stupid tip forward a couple of inches for no reason at all ? Correct?

Sounds good...

Please make mine without those holes in the seat back...I want it to blend as closely as possible with the stock passenger seat....

Many performance cars today have a slightly more aggressive drivers seat design for holding the driver in place....or at least they should...

If I decide to sell the car down the road I have the complete option of putting the original seat back in place should I want to...options mine...this gets even better.

Simple easy and affordable mod..

Awesome

We will leave the bottom foam to the customer, as some may have already replaced the foam or done a rebuilt kit. We will look into supplying components for rebuilding the bottom for those in need.

We will be making the complete back - custom tubular steel frame designed specifically to bolt to the oem bottom, foam and cover as well as a replacement cover for the stock bottom. With simulated leather upholstery pricing will start at $749 per seat. Suede inserts are expected to add about $100 and natural leather about $200 per seat and we will be able to confirm that after the cover patterning is complete.

This seat back will not fold forward because the latch and cable behind the headrest is eliminated. The seat back angle however will still adjust with the handle on the side of the seat.

We could design a second version that reuses the release cable but that likely wouldn't be until the winter. The customer would also need to source and send us a cable and the plastic bezel around it because they are color keyed to the color of the upholstery. It is getting harder to find many colors and the customer looses the option of simply swapping back to stock if he had to take components off his stock back for us to use.

The new bottom cover that will be included with our back can have a sub belt opening sewn in for those who need it. You would make a slit in the bottom foam that flaps would pull through and you could glue them to the underside of the foam cushion. You would also need to spread the center wires outward to allow enough space for the sub belt to pass. How or where you would attach the sub belt would be completely up to you, but we can help get the process started. Below are C6 pictures but the C5 would be similar.

How is the side airbag in the bolster addressed? Do you provide sims or is it the customer responsibility to address?

I definitely like what you've done but I also don't want to drive around with the airbag light on.

I leave that to the customer, but a well known source for them is below:

Thanks!

Two more things...
- The back will still be able to recline using the factory seat controls, correct?
- When do you anticipate the leather version will be available?

The back will still recline using the lever on the bottom but it will loose the feature of folding forward from a lever behind the headrest.

Once the upholstery patterning is complete, seats will be able to be ordered with any cover material, its just that leather or suede covers will take longer to produce as the materials will be ordered as paid.

Sounds good...should be a great upgrade ..

A point I'd like to make...

In your mock ups, the pass throughs are very small, and very low. They don't appear like they would allow people to safely use shoulder belts. I'd suggest making them both taller and sitting them up higher to allow for more drivers to be able to safely use them.

Nice looking seats though.

The new back is the one without a cover. If anything, we will need to make another version with lower holes. I have a longer than average torso and my shoulders are at the bottom of the hole.

The first test cover has been made and it fit pretty good. The upholstery factory will make some tweaks next week and make another cover. The first covers that will be made are the C6 black (ebony) in simulated leather. More updates will be coming soon.

Great progress!

I can't tell from the pics....Is there any contour to the back? It looks very flat in the lumbar area.
