Emissions Fail? 2018 GS
 

Any idea why emissions test would fail on a New 2018 GS with only 11 miles?

not driven enough, it needs to cycle through a specific pattern of use before the ECU will set all flags as ready I have heard up to 500 miles

My C7 takes about 200 miles before it'll pass OBDII emissions.

Hmmm, that's going to be tough as I doubt I'll drive that far before the temp tag expires in 20 days, leaving me with no tag at all to drive it to generate mileage needed.

B/S laws saving no one and no environmental save either.

A new car should come with certification papers showing that emissions comply from the manufacturer for the first year of ownership.

Does your Check Engine Light blink several times before going off when you start vehicle? I know on 2012 Mustang the CEL would blink several times at startup after I loaded a tune .. that meant the Emissions Readiness Test will fail. If the CEL went off right away ... that meant it will pass readiness emissions test. I don't know if GM has same feature on the Corvette.

Didn't notice that. It was delivered at around 1:00 today and I drove directly to the emissions testing center to get it over with so I could get it registered and licensed before the temp tag expires. I haven't really had much seat time. I'm back at work now, I'll check it tonight to if it blinks. thanks for the info.

Maybe you can find a neighborhood teenager to put enough miles on it for ya before the temp tag runs out! ;-)

On a more serious note, I recently put an E-Rod LS3 in one of my antiques and the GM instructions for getting it emissions ready were very complex and specific (unlike most of the rest of the install "manual"). However, I'd think in a sales-ready car that should be part and parcel of each unit when it leaves the factory. Best of luck, in any event.

Download the GM Driving Cycle for Emissions. Find it on Google.

Then go out and do each step in order. I would do it twice to be sure and then go back to the emissions station tomorrow and it will pass.

Without the specific cycle it could take over a 1000 miles to get all monitors set. The hard part of the drive cycle to do in normal driving is the two times coast down from 55 to 20 mph without touching the accelerator or the brake. That is not something you do in everyday driving.

Oh, and it's your state that's doing this to you, not the rest of us. In my state a new car is good for 2 years, then every 2 years. They're thinking of making the first 4 years exempt.

Perhaps you should talk to your local representatives?

This subject attracts more unnecessary whining than any other subject I have experienced on this forum. Now if you live in downtown Manhattan you might need to do the drive cycle at 2 am to get the space and lack of traffic to do it, but if you live anywhere else if you can't complete the cycle in 25 minutes you need to turn in your license. And btw, 200 miles of random driving has about a 10% chance of completing all 8 parts of the cycle unless you live in rural Montana. 20-25 minutes of focused driving will complete all 8 easily.

I've not dealt with emission being from a town that didn't require this, so this is new pain in the butt that I used to not do.

I misse why would a new car be going through an emissions test ? Was it purchased new or used ?

New, yeah I don't personally know anyone who removes their emissions equipment these days...except myself, but that was a 89 Turbo Trans Am 25 years ago. Cats these days are better than 30 yrs ago, right?

Really though, none of my friends or co-workers care about maximizing their vehicle's performance. I would bet that 85% of the vehicles on the interstate are using the original emissions equipment. If I ever modify this vehicle's exhaust, I would a use a high flow cat. I hate smelling like fumes, unless I'm running 100+ unleaded, then I like that smell.

Many states require an emissions test for new vehicles bought from an out of state dealer. Don't know if this is the case but possible

No emission testing on new vehicles in CA for the first 6 years...unless you bought it from out of state dealer and then it has to be smog tested for initial registration and then every two years. Stupid law.

Just take a drive in it enjoy it. I bought my GS June 23rd with 25miles on it. I now have 7800miles. No garage queens for me :rock:

Yeah, the easiest 214 miles I ever drove. It had 11 miles Saturday at noon and then 214 when I got home that afternoon. What a fun car! I can't believe how smooth it is on the road.

Not sure 500 miles will do it. I had over 600 miles on mine when it failed the emissions test. O2 sensors not ready. GM Bulletin 15-NA-010 says it can take up to 1000 miles, possibly more. I did the GM drive cycle 5 times as well. Fortunately, I was able to get a waiver from the referee. Now good for 6 years.
