Installed New Monroe OES shocks...
 

...today on my '94 C4 convertible. What a huge difference !! The original Bilsteins at 23 years old and 68K miles were shot. The car would wander, dip and dive on uneven pavement and rode terrible!! I thought about a new set of OEM Bilsteins but couldn't justify the $$$ for the way I use and drive the car. All in..I'm out $83 for the set!!
( Monroe is having a sale thru November...buy one at regular price...get 2nd at 1/2 price)!! Lots of bang for the buck !!:thumbs: Now the car is smooth, stable and drives like a Corvette should. I made a few High Speed:rock: runs just to compare:thumbs: ...very stable and smooth. Next up will be the bushings front and rear and maybe new trailing arm links.

I kept the OEM Bilsteins with the idea of sending them in to have them rebuilt to original specs...I may put them back on just for the idea of "that's what the car came with". I have a friend who is into the whole NCRS thing and he encouraged me to save them.

Does anyone know what the process is for having the Bilsteins restored to original ?

You can check the Bilstein website. I always heard it cost as much as new ones with less warranty. Dan

I think the trick is sending them for revalving, and that somehow costs less? Not sure.

I also replaced my C4, with those shocks, great ride, little pricey.

I don't believe that Bilstein will do anything with a shock done for an OE. One of their originals yes but a GM/OE I doubt.

dont waste your money on rebuilding nor listen to what your ncrs buddy says.

If your really interested in NCRS get the book on your car.
Look at all the necessary steps to go through to earn points.
Save your parts yes, but be aware of what the points index is for keeping the OEM part vs rebuilding the OEM part.

I put in Bilsteins recently because a good deal was found. On a tight budget I would consider KYBs, or *maybe* these Monroes. I'm glad you are having a good experience. I hope they last a long time -- typically the issue with economy shocks is longevity (durability).

The original "Delco Bilstein" shocks are valuable only for a concours restoration. Otherwise they are for the bin... and yes there is a proper way of disposing them.

Disagree with most, as usual. I had the OEM Z51 Bilsteins redone after TWO sets of leaky Monroe garbage, thaqt, in short order. At least they refunded my money.

Aftermarket Bilsteins, from an Anaheim Corvette specialist, were not satisfactory for my Z51.

Good for you sprink! I also had a set of roached Bilsteins. I went with the KYB's. Cheap install and what a HUGE difference. I don't drive competitively, just cruise it. Between the new shocks and then a new set of fresh shoes a month later, my C4 now rides nicer than Mrs. 2LZ 2015 Challenger with the Super Track Pack.
