Smaller steering wheel?
Guys
Have you ever felt you need a smaller, performance steering wheel but didn't want to quit airbag? Looks like we may have a solution for you :-) We've started with a C6 and will hopefully post the results within no more than 2-3 weeks. So far we have modified core and we are now working on the resin overlay. Here's the comparison of stock steering wheel with smaller, modified core - this should give you some hint of what to expect :) http://redlinegoods.com/marketing/varia/C6small-01.jpg http://redlinegoods.com/marketing/varia/C6small-02.jpg What do you think? Is this something we should proceed with or maybe we're just wasting our time and OEM steering wheel is good enough? Please let me know :) Take care Jack RedlineGoods Team |
I like the idea. Any chance you will do the same for the C5?
|
Of course we will! Right after we finish prototyping on the C6 wheel that now looks like this:

Some people may not make the jump of paying xtra $$ for just a little smaller wheel? but the odds may go way up if they can get the flat bottom and it's a little smaller to. I would :) |
I think both a flat bottom and full circular wheel would be awesome. Looks great so far!
eta: The shifter boot I bought for my Land Rover nearly 6 years ago STILL looks new, which attests to the quality of what Redline produces. |
Dig the top part, but the extra details on the bottom seem fussy. I'll also second the request for a flat bottom! And suede!

I would def purchase a suede wheel with out the contours on the bottom.
|
The contours are only additional option, we just made them on the prototype to test all possible combinations and solve all the issues that may possibly appear.
Anyway, we'll continue working and I hope to have some more photos and closer price estimation for you early next week :) Take care Jack RedlineGoods Team |
What's the aim for cost?
+1 on the desire for a flat bottom, and matching suede to the OEM stuff would be great too, as I've already upgraded all of my interior control surfaces to OEM suede/blue stitching. |
It's too early to assess the final price before this first prototype is finished. But considering that this is is a very time consuming, labor-intensive project I think it's going to end up close to $1K.
We are of course willing to offer special deals for a few first customers so we can start building a list to see how many of you are interested and what deal we can offer :) Take care Jack RedlineGoods Team |
Ok Jack...Looks Great!!...I would like to see it in carbon fiber...incorporate the leather or carbon fiber on the steering wheel controls...you have a beautiful looking wheel then you go to the controls and blaaa and can you try to make a better looking paddle shifter setup that would compliment the wheel...or can you make a wheel that is flat on the top as well as the bottom...sort of F1 type...there is a company in Wisconsin that makes thin carbon fiber for interior improvements

Well put treadhead!!

looks awesome! I'm interested in more details!

Just FYI, I ordered some stuff from RedlineGoods 6 years ago. Leather shift and parking brake gaiters for my land rover. Quality stuff that's lasted and still looks new. I wouldnt hesitate to order one of these steering wheels for the right price.
|
Looks great. Of course I'm guessing the primary question continues to be how much?? Figures -- and I just had a custom "D" wheel done. Would have preferred this route.

But as I said - there will be a special price for you guys - I think $850 shipped is a fair deal, what do you think? It's only $150 more than our flat bottom OEM diameter wheel for something that really is much more complex and unique. I will be happy to hear your thoughts, as always :) Take care Jack RedlineGoods Team |
Hi Jack,
nice wheel - really like the size. Some questions Is the steering wheel available with the 2012+ designed left and right button covers as well? Will it be available with radio and bluetooth buttons? How is the procedure? Do you need to have my wheel as a core to convert it to the smaller size? Have in my 2013 the 60th Anniv. suede wheel with blue stiching - will your wheel be fully suede material or mixed with the perforated leather shown above and suede at the top/buttom - or is that on me to decide which material is used where? What is the ETA right now since you're still in the process of setting up the manufacturing? Thanks Lars |
