starter

I have a 327 motor (62-65) and a 350 turbo trans. I have a 168 tooth flywheel. I need a starter to put in as I bought this from someone and it did not have a starter. what will fit?

Totally wrong forum to ask this question but since I'm a hell of a nice guy, I looked it up for you on Google. http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/sh...hp?tid/171683/ You're welcome!:cool:

I really appreciate your link. I already had that info. I have tried at least 8 different starters from my local Carquest and the gap from flywheel to starter is a lot more then the 1/8" gap allowed. I cannot find a starter that will fit. Carquest is telling me I should change my flywheel to 153 tooth. I would rather find a starter. I know this is not the place to address this but I am desperate and am looking for anyone that can help.
thanks for being such a nice guy...
Nick

NP. You might have some luck in the C2, C3 or C4 forums as that motor is more inline with what they use. C5s use the LS1 engine and the older small blocks are very seldom used in a C5 or newer simply because the LS series make really good HP for cheap. You might have some luck asking this same question in one of the older model forums. GL with your solution.:cool:

The c2 flywheel was the 153 tooth version and the 350 block went to the 168 tooth version, the take a different starter gear to work. You more than likely are ordering the C2 starter and not the C3 version. If you are going to get the smaller flywheel, be sure to order the L88 one as it is 14lb nodular iron vs the steel one at 30lb. HTH

Which way is it out, front to back or gear mesh? How much over 1/8th inch is it?

A starter from a mid 90's pickup would be a good choice. It's smaller and lighter.

from flywheel to arbor on starter is about 1/4"
They say you can put in an eight inch drill bit and if it fits fairly tight its good. but I could fit 2 of them in there.
