DLC power for a Bluetooth ALDL tranceiver

I'm trying to get a Red River Bluetooth ALDL transceiver running in my car. The instructions say that "Switched Power needs to be supplied on either pin G or pin L of the 12 pin ALDL connector." I've got 12 volts across pins A and G but the unit is not starting. The FSM shows that pins K and L go to the DERM but I'm not at all clear about how that works. Can someone please explain how to get 12 volts across either of the necessary pins?

I've contacted Red River, but am hoping to resolve this sooner rather than later.

Thanks!
Jerry

Thanks! It is indeed a '93. Red River includes a wire with the connector already installed. I was thinking along the same lines in terms of pulling a pin. I found another option last night. I can send the box back and get it rewired to pull power on one of the two unused pins in the '93 (can't remember which pins they are).

I might open up the box (if I can figure out how) and see if it's a simple soldering project before I decide.

Thanks for the word on the phantom 12v. That was really messing with me. I see I need to do some reading there too. I thought 12v DC was just that!

Best,
Jerry

I thought cavity G was the fuel pump in the '93.

Thanks. You're right. I dug the schematic out of my pseudo-FSM.

Pinouts (9 pins used. Pins D, and E open.)

A - Ground
B - Diagnostic Enable (Tire Pressure?)
C - Diagnostic Enable (Selective Ride Control)
D - Unused
E - Unused
F - TCC
G - Diagnostic Enable (CCM)
H - Diagnostic Enable (PKE)
I - There is no pin I.
J - Entertainment and Comfort Bus (Radio Control Head)
K - Diagnostic Enable (Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module DERM)
L - Diagnostic Enable (Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module DERM)
M - Serial Data

In terms of powering the transceiver, there are several threads from people dealing with this issue. I have two options. I can swap out pin G or L on the DLC for power or I can rewire the device to accept power on one of the open pins. It looks like I can send it back to Red River and get him to do it but I haven't heard back from him about my questions. I poked around the box on Monday and it looks like it's simply hot-glued together so I may pull it out of the car and open it up myself.

Right now I've tucked the box away behind the driver's knee bolster and have it powered via a USB cable to the cigar lighter. It's ugly, to say the least.

Best,
Jerry

Does it have a USB port on it?

Yes. That's how I'm powering it right now.

I needed to power my Garmin GPS in my truck. I wanted to use switched power and needed it to be on a mini USB. I picked up an adapter from Amazon for 10 bucks and wired it in. Has worked out great.

When I use mine I use the USB cable plugged into an adapter connected to the cigarette lighter or my laptop. I haven't rewired the ALDL connector and may not.
