The European thing is referring to the "Ped Pro" or Pedestrian protection test. This is the reason the Z06 over heats in my opinion. When they supercharged the Z06, they likely considered a blower the same size as the one on the C6 ZR1, but it was too tall so it wouldn't allow enough clearance to pass this new European test. Instead, they used a smaller 1.7L supercharger spun faster to allow sufficient gap between the supercharger cover and the hood. This way when a head hits the hood, the hood has some give before hitting the cover. Unfortunately, the 1.7L blower is spinning out of it's efficiency range generating much of the heat that plagues the Z06.
I suspected they would use a larger blower for the C7 ZR1 to keep things cool. If they pushed the 1.7L further, it would only make the existing problem worse. This article seems to confirm that. "Like the Z06’s engine, this one is capped by an Eaton supercharger. The blower is bigger than the LT4s pumping 52 percent more air with each revolution, and taller by 2.9 inches." Does that mean the blower is 2.6L? Also of note, is that the hood has a cut out in it. The supercharger cover peeking out is fixed to the top of the supercharger. This likely helps reduce height and increase visibility but still won't pass the European pedestrian test. It will be interesting to see if the aftermarket offers a clear cover replacement reminiscent of C6 ZR1. Also, if those with Z06s are able to swap to this blower hood and cover, they could get a power bump and a blower that that is properly sized. |

I guess ya all don't realize that every year from the middle of November until the EOM, the UAE fills up with Europeans for the F1 season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Sucks. Now I have to wait to get home to read the article. Phone screen won't cut it.

Dubai is in Asia, not Europe.
Also, many Europeans work and vacation there for lots of good reasons. Plenty of wealthy buyers there in those oil-rich Middle Eastern countries. It's mostly European cars, particularly Italian. |
