Opinions on the deduction of color change

Subject car is a 1966 coupe originally yellow repainted resale rally red when body off restored.

65hihp 11-10-2017 07:53 PM

Full deduct for color. 85 points.

what he said:cheers::cheers:

if your talking price then there are other factors involved

68hemi 11-10-2017 08:17 PM

Sorry, I should have clarified price.

65hihp 11-10-2017 08:20 PM

+ $10,000

Nowhere Man 11-10-2017 08:23 PM

does the car have its born with drive line?

60n1st 11-10-2017 08:44 PM

What shape and options?

68hemi 11-10-2017 09:35 PM

Owner says original engine, trans, rear. 327/350 4 speed, leather but not coded for it. Repo side exhaust and KO wheels, PS, PB (not original MC) and PW. Body off resto 1500 miles ago. Nice car.

Nowhere Man 11-10-2017 09:37 PM

With a car like do you think the owner is going to agree to a discount becouse it’s the wrong color per the trim tag.

I guess we will see if I get serious. It would be a good candidate for NCRS judging however I would likely never go there. I like both the original color and the repaint color but I have to consider how I might get beat up over it down the road if I wanted to sell it. I would think the hit for it would be about 20% but that is just my opinion.

Nowhere Man 11-10-2017 09:54 PM

The next buyer might be thinking the same thoughts you have. Or they might not care.

:iagree:deducting cause it has leather? gotta hear this conversation

This is why I think this whole #s matching thing is bs

I didn't say I would deduct for it. Price guide show a 2% for it IF it is coded for it.

I am only asking about the hit for wrong body color. Trim tag shows the car to be yellow with standard vinyl.

It's a standard deduction on the NCRS judging sheets. 50% on originality if it's a fabric change only, and not a color change.

IIRC, seat material is given 24 points, so a change to leather would be a 12 point deduction if it's the same color, as the material doesn't match the trim tag, i.e. black vinyl replaced with black leather.

If it's a change of both color and material, it's a 100% deduction, which would be 24 points.

From the Judging Reference Manual:

Change of Interior Color or Fabric: 50% originality deduction on every item affected by the alteration.

(An item exhibiting both color and fabric change would receive a 100% deduct for that
item.)

Good info but can you relate that to dollars?

Frankie the Fink 11-11-2017 11:40 AM

Of course not. The NCRS goes to painstaking lengths to state that their awards and the judging process are not to be construed as price valuation criteria. Off the cuff ? $15k for repaint and $3500 for interior change. That will get some points back but doesn’t make the car original.

I would guess that amount would equal the cost to put the "right stuff" back in the car, materials plus labor (if you don't do it yourself).

Al Knoch and Corvette America sell interior kits, and I believe each manufactures their own products. I'd check their prices.

In The Book of Jeff, a change from that original yellow to Resale Red is a deal killer. I wouldn't even be interested. Of course, the Book of Jeff only matters to me---- as I'm its author.

Let's not forget the new Concours Judging by NCRS. Flight judging evaluates originality, Concours Judging does not involve the Trim tag or engine stamping numbers. A nice looking C2 with a crate 350 painted any color of the rainbow can do well in Concours Judging.

Do they give different color ribbons in that class to distinguish good, better, best?
