Value of 1988 C4 with 55k?
 

Hello. I'm looking at a red 1988 C4 with only 55k miles on it. It's an automatic with black interior and glass top. Any idea on what the market value of this car might be assuming that it runs and drives without issues? Thanks!

prices could be all over the place. a lot depends on mechanics, maintenance, cosmetics (paint, interior, miscellaneous trim), a host of other things, and overall condition. remember, it's a 30 year old - most everything needs attention. how has this car been taken care of - pampered, neglected, abused, etc.. at this age, mileage is a secondary issue. some of these cars can be money pits - labor's crazy, and some parts, even more so. how are the tires and brakes? from the little info you've given, i'd say $5K-$6K is an average price for a decent driver, but it could be a little a $2K or as high as $10K - who knows??? we recently had a 90 coupe, 93K miles, one owner, garage kept, very clean and well cared for, go for less than $6K. it was for sale for months - started at $9500.

I paid 9k for a 95 car with 38k on it and no problems.

:iagree: The vette is older, your ABSOLUTELY going to have to throw money into it due to it's age. Take from a guy who bought a 1987 in Sept. 2016 and I've spent around 3000.00 or more for things that simply wear out. When they age, so do the component's no matter the mileage. Try to get it for 5K - 6K max.

Forgot to mention, the 87 I bought only had 59,000 on it.

OK thanks for the responses. The price is $3500, but said it has a slight miss to it. It's definitely a clean car, though.

His starting asking price is only $3500.00 That says a lot right there. He probably figures he'll get $2900.00. That low price should indicate lots of work. Be careful on this one without thorough inspection first.

:iagree: - i'd err on the side of caution here. the low or lowest price is not always the best deal. a slight miss could be a blown head gasket - not unusual for a aluminum head L98. if that, repair costs could be $1000-$3000 depending on parts and labor costs. sounds like with the low ($3500) price, the owner knows something and exactly what's causing the miss. i'd figure worse case scenario - :rock:

See, this is why I don't know what to do with my '88 C4. 120K miles, seats and steering wheel need to be re-done, but otherwise it's in great shape. And all I could expect to get for it is 5K or so if I freshened it up inslde. It's worth more to keep it and let it sit in the garage than selling it for that little bit of coin. Maybe keep it for a push/pull/drag-in sale for when I want a new SUV or pickup in a few years. I dunno.
