Need help identifying this part, need a replacement
1996 LT1 Corvette:
This is located on the passenger side of the intake manifold, it seems to be a vacuum "T" with a check valve. One tube goes into the firewall in a bundle of wires (HVAC maybe?) it plugs into a vacuum port in side of intake about in the middle, behind the EVAP components. The two fuel injectors you see in 2nd pic are cylinders #6 and #8 the hose with the 90 deg. bend at bottom of pic is what plugs into the "T" I broke off the hard plastic end one of the rubber hoses slips on to. Trying to locate a replacement, but don't know what I am asking for? Any help is appreciated https://s19.postimg.org/vtr8o5alf/IM..._163221100.jpg https://s19.postimg.org/e3pk3626b/IM..._163253468.jpg |
As you know it's a Vac. Check Valve I am sure you can find it locally but here is a Link for a Supplier

two-way vacuum check valve. available at most any auto parts supply house. dorman is probably the most common aftermarket - p/n 47150 - about $5
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/yfwAA...wQ/s-l1600.jpg GM does have a service replacement, p/n 15733271, however, it looks a bit different than OE. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...ebe617167e.jpg personally, i'd go with the dorman part - |

I'm usually disappointed with Dorman. The original GM part lasted 20 years, and the Dorman will fail in 2 months.
If you use the cruise control a lot, you'll know the check valve has failed internally (leaks) because the cruise won't hold speed on an incline, and the HVAC doors flop to Defrost. As soon as you increase the speed and let off (increases vacuum) it all goes back to normal until the next grade. That little $5 part can cause a LOT of aggravation on a long trip if it doesn't last. I carry an extra. I depend on cruise to keep me out of citation territory speeds. just curious, what part or vendor's part are you using in lieu of dorman? |

The little GM replacement you have a picture of. It too isn't real great on longevity, so I carry extras in the center console of all the cars I drive regularly.
I'm "sensitive" to jankey replacement check valves because of my experiences with the turbocharged Syclone and Typhoon. These are very susceptible to cruise control problems if the check valve leaks even a little bit because they run along at highway speeds with only a few inches of manifold vacuum, and there isn't much reserve vacuum in the ball to actuate the cruise when it goes to zero vacuum, or a few inches of boost on a grade. It slows down. I have to watch the speed and boost gauge all the time. My 85 still has its born-with check valve. The 7,800 miles the past two summers were all pretty much on the cruise. Still works fine. My comment regarding Dorman "quality" isn't only regarding check valves. Don't get me started on their replacement oil cooler lines for S-series which includes Syclone and Typhoon. The OEM lasted 10-12 years. Before ObamaMotors, the GM replacements lasted 5-8 years. The Dormans last 18 months tops before they begin to leak at the swedges. They have a lifetime free replacement, but someone has to put them on the truck. Very fussy and messy. The quality of replacement parts has become so deplorable, I have little desire to take on new car projects or new "builds". I'm busy enough replacing parts on the daily drivers that I just replaced less than 2 years ago. REALLY frustrating. again, really can't say I've had issues with dorman, but my purchases are few and amount to some nuts, bolts, screws, a few plastic clips, a radiator drain plug, and the check valve - little stuff in those bubble packs. I've never purchased any type of cooler lines, big ticket items, or anything complicated, so that, I really can't comment. anyway, have a good one my friend - enjoy the upcoming thanksgiving holiday -:thumbs: |
