Headlight stop screw rubber pad

The adjusting screws on my 69 headlight stops do not have the rubber pad that goes on the end. I can't find them for sale. Are they really needed? Or does anyone know where I can find them for sale?

Thanks
Glenn in San Diego

Ecklers carries them, about $2 ea. It's the same rubber that is used for the hood stops. The reason for them: with lots of C3s when the headlights are in the up position they kinda bounce giving the headlights a flickering illusion. The rubbers stop that if adjusted properly. T

Hi Glenn,
I'm not sure when the rubber pads were installed at St.Louis. The 71 AIM doesn't show them and my car didn't have them originally.

Without the pads in place the headlights really make a 'clang' when that 'stop' bolt hits the headlight frame at the fully 'up' position.
The pads do silence that noise to a 'thud' in addition to stabilizing the mechanism as Terry mentions.

Regards,
Alan

The flat slotted screw head looks like it was once home to a hood bumper stop cap. Jegs sells them for less than $3 a pair. Buy em and try em.
