Navy Blue Metallic was a 1999 color that made it on to 14 1998 Corvettes. It was used again in 1999 & 2000 when a few thousand Vettes were painted that color.

Yeah. I think that the way they worded it was a little confusing. Probably not the color itself that made it "rare" (I have a NBM '99.), but like you said it's the fact that only 14 were 1998s. Just fyi they also used NBM in 2001 as well. I like it ok, but, next to black, it's the hardest color I've come across to try and keep clean. :cry

I had always thought that prototype, pilot build or any pre-production vehicles (Corvettes of otherwise) could never be sold to or titled for road use by a member of the general public.

I'm guessing this is ultimately up to the manufacturer. Prototype vehicles obviously may not meet certain road-going criteria but pilot and pre-production cars that are utilized for road tests are often very similar or exactly the same to production counter-parts. A good deal of those pre-sequence cars are also things like GM executive cars and similar, which eventually make their way into private hands. It would make sense that if the car has the ability to have a title assigned and someone actually buys it then why not sell it?

The good thing in regards to the C5 at least is pilot and pre-production VINs are fairly well documented, which makes it very easy to know if you have a car that falls into that realm.

That's my Fairway Green convertible with the optional N73 mags (since replaced). I do get a fair amount of compliments on the color, primarily because you don't see this C5 color on a regular basis.
