Insuring a 2019 ZR1

I just talked to a ratings specialist with GEICO (my current insurance carrier) and he said GEICO will not insure a ZR1 of any year as it is labeled "High Performance".

Current ZR1 owners, who insures your car? Do you mind sharing your ballpark premiums and driving record/family situations?

C7 Z06 owners, who have you had luck with and feel charges a reasonable premium?

Thanks in advance!

Had Geico insurance on my truck and they wanted to insure all my vettes and harleys, one of which is a 2010 ZR1. I didn't mention them but they (and all insurers it seems) know what you own. Anyway, I use Hagerty.

Starting with the C7 Z06, State Farm has had a policy, of “individual customer review/acceptance” to determine whether they would insure it.

Guessing that that review will soon (prior to production) add the ZR1 into that mandatory process, perhaps even with more stringent standards.

Since 2014, I have been advising all prospective buyers of that model to first check and confirm that your insurance company will insure you for the specific model you are buying, including at what price — especially those who have some “questionable credit/driving history.”

I had a '17 Grand Sport prior to my '18 Z06. State Farm wanted to raise my premium by almost $500 for 6 months for going with the Z06. I switched both my cars to Geico with the same coverage I had with State Farm. My premium was reduced to about $200 less for the 6 month period with the Z06 vs.the GS I had with SF.

Had a similar experience with State Farm and Geico. Geico is so much easier (and cheaper) to deal with.

My 11 zr1 is insured thru progressive.
my premium is $905 every 6 months. I’m 28 and have a clean record. This is full coverage 500 deductible and full glass etc.

I have Erie, they insure in PA only, the funny thing is I own a Caddy SRX that was their "high performance OPTION model" that costs more to insure than my hellcat, Z06, Jag and Escalade, and almost as much as my turbo s, that cost 160k more. My Z06 is $515 a year, hellcat $475. I was told my new ZR1 would be about 100 more than my Z06. Of course I am OLD

I have Traveler's on my C6 ZR1 and Sierra Denali. No issues when I called them to add the ZR1, premium went up about $130/month. Very reasonable.

Financing the ZR1 was more difficult. The majority of banks considered it an "exotic car" and didn't want anything to do with it. They didn't even have it in their system to put a value on it. It took several phone calls but I finally found a bank to do it. Sounds like GEICO is telling you something similar.

Pay $63/month for State Farm with outstanding coverage levels. Very happy with that. However, I do fit into every single lowest risk category.

We have everything (2 home owners policies, life insurance, 4 vehicles, boat, 2 trailers, personal umbrella policy, wife's business insurance etc) through State Farm.

My wife's 2010 ZR1 is less than my 2017 Silverado 3500 LTZ or her 2018 Traverse LTZ. When we had the C7 Z06, it was only $25 more per month than the ZR1 is currently. We also fit into nearly every low risk category, including low annual mileage on the Corvettes and A+ driving records.

I've worked with a lot of insurance companies in the course of vehicle repairs at the dealership level and they all suck. We've been with State Farm for 3 generations in my family and they've never done us wrong.

USAA on the C6 ZR1. It actually cost less to insure than the C6 Z06. The ZR1 is about $700 a year, which is less than we pay for our '15 Escalade and '17 Accord.

Here in Massachusetts my insurer (Commerce) does not have actual figure yet for a 2019 ZR-1 but based on MSRP as a guide they are estimating 1,300. I have excellent history, full coverage and 500 deductible.

Bryansuavo 12-28-2017 08:55 PM

Gary '09 C6 12-28-2017 09:09 PM

^ I do for mine--collector car policy (6K mi's per yr)...high liability limits, full comprehensive & collision, and agreed-value coverage.

Robert Tucker 12-28-2017 09:22 PM

Adam boca

use him at the museum for cheap

Steve Garrett 12-28-2017 10:06 PM

Adam Boca....for the win!

zhopper05 12-29-2017 07:37 AM

I like Adam. However, the type of insurance he offers may not be suitable for everyone. I had my 2014 StingRay and another classic car I owned insured with him. It is a stated-value coverage. If you plan to drive your car beyond car shows, and enjoy the heck out of it, it ends up not being feasible. When I bought the Z07, I checked with him before going with GEICO. GEICO was almost half of what Adam quoted me, and I can now drive the car to the grocery store without worrying about it.
