Trunk Board Clip location 54

Previous owner never installed side curtain clips or clips for jack handle. My car is #2734

I see the perimeter holes to attach cardboard to vehicle and Brett Henderson has schooled me on correct screws for these... I also noted on the hinge towers that there are holes drilled in the metal flanges.

I am assuming you aren't expecting the card board to hold this stuff itself and the clips for the bag and jack handle go through cardboard an into this metal tower for support.

It appears that may be the case on this 54 (not my car)

The picture you posted was my car. The "cardboard" will not hold anything. You are correct in assuming the holes in the "towers" are there for a reason, which is to hold the jack handle and side curtain bag.

This is the trunk of an original unrestored '54, VIN #3300 owned by forum member Jim Lockwood:

Here's a picture I found on the internet. You can barely see the holes drilled in the "towers" outside of the hinge arms.

make the clips that hold the iron - even with the bottom of the hinge hole cut out - that will make the iron parallel.

Outstanding help guys and thanks for the clarification... now any tips to locate those holes through the cardboard? Perhaps install screws in metal supports from the back side pointing out toward rear of car and lightly pressing cardboard to get witness marks on the backside?

gum or dum dum or tape
you can install the board using the screws in the side and locate the metal towers.

Question: Are the 53-55 jack handle clips the same as used for 56-60s? The vendors sell sets of 56-60 clips that include the lug wrench clips. I know the wrench clips are different between 53-55 and 56-60.

The lug wrench clips on my '57 were different and the wrench was on the left side of the trunk next to the wheel well instead of leaning against the trunk panel.

Thanks. So I’m interested in the clips for the scissors jack. Are they the same 53-60. Where did you source the clips for your 54?

The '54 lug wrench clips look like broom handle clips.

The '54 Jack handle clips are steel J clips.

Mary Jo has them on eBay right now. I suppose you could get them from Grossmueller's as well.

Here's a link to her eBay ad:

The "scissors jack" on later VIN '54's sits on top of the spare tire wheel under the plywood spare tire board. There are 3 square foam blocks glued to the underside of the spare tire board that hold it down against the spare tire wheel. Corvette Central has them.

1953 and early VIN 1954 Corvettes came with the scissor jack stored in the trunk down in the well area on the right side on a small shelf. It was held in by a spring. Here's a picture of a spring sold by Mary Jo in an ad on eBay right now which also includes the two sets of clips.
