1957 - Is this a factory hole?
This was on the same car with the cross flags I asked about the other day. This hole was near the rear antenna. I'd never seen a hole here before.
Both this hole and the fender flags had been on the car at least since the early 70s. http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL43.../413734211.jpg http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL43.../413734212.jpg Thanks in advance. Wes |
It looks very specific for something but not factory.
|
That "key hole" looks like another antenna type hole. Maybe for a CB antenna those were very popular back then.
|
The hole doesn't look factory to me, and I have seen one on another Vette. A CB antenna or something would make sense.
|
Not factory, for sure.
|
Disregard "non-factory" until you give wider profile shots - give some of us "area" to explore oddities that we might have seen over the last 70 years. Worth a shot?

Thank you, Wes http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL43.../413734476.jpg |
electric plug for that factory 1 of 1 trailer hitch
|
careful what you are calling a hole, perhaps refer to it as a vacancy in the plane of the fiberglass panel.
|
For the detachable winding key.
|
alarm switch?

Wes, I like the trailer hitch! Seriously.
You're right, the antenna hole should be much closer to the tail light. Is there evidence of a filled hole underneath? Maybe your car came with no radio, and prior owners added one and guessed at where the antenna hole should be. Or like someone else said, one of the holes could be for a CB. Nice looking '57! |

Both of my 57's had factory radios - here's one, showing the antenna location.

Ours the day it was shipped when we sold it last year. This is the only rear deck shot I have.
