[ANSWERED] New oil fill 0w40
The original question is here.
BlueDevilZ51 asked: Do you recommend 2014-18 C7s use the new Mobil 1 0w40 dexos2 engine oil that has been announced to be the factory oil fill for 2019s. I'd prefer to use one oil instead of having to change from 5w30 to 15w50 for track use. If you don't recommend the earlier C7 using 0w40, why? Tadge answered: Yes, the new Mobil1 OW40 Dexos 2 oil (Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40) is also the recommended oil for all C7's prior to 2019. This oil was specifically developed to meet all of GM's performance requirements during engine dyno testing, vehicle road testing and performance track testing including the 2014-2018 Corvettes (all models). The Multi-grade Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40 synthetic motor oil has many benefits including exceptional fast oil flow at startup along with low temperature pump-ability and exceptional viscosity/performance characteristics at high-temperature and high-RPM operating conditions. We are still refining our recommendations for the LT5 in the upcoming ZR1, so they may differ. |
Does anyone know where to buy the ESP 0w40? The only one I can find for sale is the European Car formula which apparently isn’t the same. The only ESP 0W40 I can find is sold in England.

So no more oil changes between street and track use?

So what about C5 and C6 models? Do we continue with the 5-30 or do we step up to the 0-40?

Thanks for the reply, now I just have to find who sells it.
|
Does this mean we don't need 15w50 for the track? He didn't specify.

I suspect the oil will be fine for C5's and C6's, but Tadge will never say yes or no without doing any long term durability/reliability testing on those cars. The testing was done for C7's (but not yet completed for the ZR1) so he can unequivocally say the oil is good for the C7.

I'm still going to use the remaining Mobile 1 that I already have in my garage before buying some.

As soon as 5 quart jugs of the new stuff show up at Walmart, I'll consider it. If I have to go to the dealer to get it, I'll stick to the good ole 5W-30. :D

GM has not validated this product for C5/C6 so stay with 5w30 |

This is awesome not having to worry about street and track oils anymore! I'll probably run the 15w50 till the fall since I doubt this new 0w40 will be easily available till then. Kudo's to GM for working on this and making it retroactive on all LT1's.

Mobil 1 recently posted a new Safety Data Sheet and Product Data Sheet for a new "ESP formula 0W40" which differs from the old 0W40. Both are dated Jan 2018.

Member BEZ06 posted this info from a Mobil 1 presentation at the Rolex Corvette Hospitality Tent:
At the Rolex in the Corvette Corral Hospitality Tent right now listening to a Mobil1 presentation. They say the new 0W-40 is a different formulation than the European version they’ve had for a long time. The new 0W-40 meets the Dexos certification specs. They say it will be available at dealerships Feb 1st, but not in retail auto stores for about 6 months. It’s good for the street and track. It will become the factory fill for all Vettes. |
