I've been Meroed (MRC recalibration)
 

I just had the MRC (Magnetic Ride Control) Software recalibration completed on my 14 Z51 M7.
After only having driven it a few miles, I can say that the difference is noticeable.
Before I continue, I must make a qualifying statement about tires. I had 30,000 miles on the OE tires and then switched to the A/S 3+ tires for the past 10K. The noticeable change with the fitment of the 3+ tires was a softer ride and some loss in steering quickness. With the more compliant tires, it allowed the use of “Sport” setting on more roads.
With the offering of this new recalibration, I had hoped to get some of the steering feel back. The change of ride characteristics was to be a benefit but, since I had already gained some improvement, not as important as with the OE tires.
Here are my observations:
Steering feel is defiantly improved and it seems more so in T mode.
The suspension reaction over bumps, such as major heaves in the asphalt, is less harsh. My seat of the pants accelerometer makes me think that the suspension reaction is less initially, and then absorbs the motion later in the suspension displacement. The bump seems less harsh, but there is no loss in composure.
While the C-7 suspension system delivered a very level ride, the chassis appears to be more stable with the revision. My sense is that there is less body movement with steering input, and less squat and dive during power and braking.
All in all, the feel of the car has a sense of a more sophisticated chassis, making the C7 experience just that much more rewarding. Given that initial work on the program for my car was done in probably 2012 and early 13, there has been 4 years and thousands of miles of development completed since the original parameters were set up. I think it is absolutely fantastic that my car can be updated to take advantage of all the new knowledge. Thanks to Jim Mero and all the folks involved in making the magnetic magic and making it available.
One last note: I have a second set of wheels and just had a set of used, but usable, OE tires mounted. I can’t wait to get them on the car and see what a precision instrument the C7 is with that package.

I have an appointment Tuesday to have my 2017 non-Z51 (FE2) A8 done. I do have Z51 sway bars installed however. I have tracked my car and look forward to spring.

For all you folks that are having this done:

Spend some time checking out your car prior to the change paying attention to the things that I observed and then look again after the upgrade. Let us know what is real and what is imagined.

They charge because it is a performance upgrade, not a "fix." There's nothing wrong with the old calibration, and there's no reason to do it if you don't care about an MSRC performance enhancement.

This reminds me of the old saying, "no good deed goes unpunished." Normally, performance upgrades are only available with new MYs, and they aren't made available to owners of older models.

$350 is reasonable considering that GM is reimbursing dealers for the labor cost associated with the installation, as well as paying for corporate staff time associated with the administration of the upgrade program. They aren't making a $350 profit on each upgrade, and it's more than likely closer to a break-even proposition for GM.

I think its fantastic that they're releasing performance updates for the older cars to keep them on-par with the current model years and they'll get my money because of it. To me, this really proves their dedication to the enthusiast market.

Thanks for the review....now if Spring would show up early (or we'd quit getting snow), I could get mine done.

I just tried to drop my car off at the dealership to get the calibration done but when they called to get the download they were told by gym they are no longer allowed to install it because it does not function as advertised. Has anyone else tried to get the download recently or had a similar problem? Or anyone know a number I can call to confirm this is the truth and not the dealership just not knowing what to do and using this as an excuse?

I had mine done yesterday....can't feel a thing (meaning, no difference).
