How many had a C5 before their C6???

We've had our C5 just about 5 years now and are looking to get into a C6 GS. Love the C5, our first Corvette, and basically just looking for something newer. Current car a coupe, 6 spd, looking at a vert, 6 spd.

I'll miss the pop up headlights, but I'm sure the LS3 will help me forget.

Any former C5 owners with tips, advice??

Thanks!

I had a 98 C5 and a 04 C5 before I got a C6. Now I've had a 07 C6 and a 10 Grand Sport. The C6's seem more together than the C5's did.

I am the original owner of a C5Z06, and have also had several C6 Vettes, including one I own currently... a C6ZR1.

My C5Z, even after 16 years, is extremely tight, meaning no noticeable squeaks and rattles. I don't know if the FRC design is less prone to flex, and thus ages really well, or what.

The C6 cars are a definite upgrade as far as interiors go, but not _light years_ ahead. The basic layout and look is the same... give or take some cosmetic changes. Materials are still "plasticky", but the center stack/console with NAV certainly looks/feels more modern than what was in the C5, which takes cues from the 4th Gen F-body cars (and that's not a compliment). But as far as the gauges and info you get on the driver's side... its nearly identical.

Fit and finish may be slightly better in the C6, but hey, its a newer car... so just based on less wear and tear, it should be.

Minor suspension and engine upgrades... although coming from an LS1 to an LS3, you will definitely feel the extra power! :) But the undercarriage of the cars is very close, which is why many refer to the C6 as a C5.5.

The C7 is a completely new car... just not my preference in exterior styling, so I will never own one.

Go drive a C6 'vert and see what you think. My guess is you will feel right at home in the car (a good thing), and feel it is a nice upgrade in all areas over the C5. But it is not a completely different car.

2001 Vert

Had the '01 for 2 yrs +. Came across a '12 GS that we could not pass up for the deal the seller was offering. My son now has the '01 Vert, and loves it.

The GS had quite a few mods done to it including a SC and an additional set of spider wheels with Michelins on them.

We loved the '01 but the '12 GS is a very different car. Ours is a 3LT auto, with targa top's. Just enjoy the ride. Very:cool:

Had an 00 coupe before selling it and buying my C6 a year later. I like my C6 vert much better, both for the big increase in power, and the ability to put the top down whenever I want without having to get out of the car.

I had a '99 black/black C-5 before I got my NCM delivery '07 C-6. that C-5 was a great car, a friend of mine bought it and it is still going strong.

I went from a 01 vert to a 08 Z06. I thought I would miss not having the top down but I don't. You can't beat the looks of a wide body C6. You will love the GS.

Owned an '03 AE VR coupe w/ A4. Loved it. Stupid reliable. Always loved C5 styling.
Traded for an '06 VR coupe w/ MN6 & Z51. Beautiful, LS2 & chassis improvements quite noticeable. Especially, for Z51 cars.

But alas due solely to GM falling on their arse via bankruptcy, a opportunity at my normally stingy dealer popped-up.
They'd a Z06 sitting in their showroom for over a year, employees didn't know if they had a job or not so they really wanted to move it.
Deep discount + solid trade-in $ for my '06 = sale in my book.
Even tho' I'd thought that one was untouchable and really wasn't looking anyway, was there buying my wife's Cad CTS4.
A once in a lifetime chance to acquire a new, never titled '08 2LZ Z06 in JSB in March of '09 happened. She insisted on it. :D
Still own Z, probably will to the very end, it never gets old.

Honestly I w/could be perfectly happy owning any C5/6, now.

I had an 01 Z06 and an 02 z06.

I had a 1998 coupe for 10.5 years and loved the car(except for the poor quality) and I didn't like the C6 when it first came out. I still like looking at C5's when I see them. Kind of wish I still had my C5(along side my C6) but I already have four cars in my 2 car garage(two old Corvettes on top of two 4-post lifts). No room for more toys.

Then when GM released the C6 Z06, and with it's aggressive stance/looks/power, I caved and bought one(my C5 and a $50K check). Have had it for 9.5 years and have no desire to trade it for a C7(or a C8 if it's a mid engine car).

yup...wish I hadn't sold her...

Birddog51 02-05-2018 04:07 PM

I had a 2002 Convertible Z51 Mag.Red Met.that I bought new. It was a great car and I never had a single problem with it.The extended warranty was a waist of $$$$

jost6453 02-05-2018 04:25 PM

I bought a torch red 2002 coupe m6 in 2006. Sold it in 2011 for for a new torch red GS 6m coupe. Then last fall I purchased another '02 coupe (electron blue) m6 to 'play' with. Love them both. If you can swing it, I recommend keeping the C5 and add the C6.

I had a 2001 coupe. For me the interior of the C5 just looks too dated now. I was also not a fan of the pop-up headlights, but it sounds like you are. With the price of the C6 now I would think it would be a great time to look at the C6

94sundevil 02-05-2018 05:32 PM

I had a 2004 coupe for 8 1/2 years before trading it on my C6Z. I always enjoyed the C5 and wish I had space to keep both. No regrets though, C6 feels like a lot small improvements other than going from 350 to 505hp.

Jeff T. 02-05-2018 05:54 PM

Thank You all for the comments!! Pretty much confirmed what I was thinking! Sure, I'll miss the pop up headlights, but I'm quite sure the extra horsepower and other improvement will be worth it!

A 2002 with 7k on the odometer shouldn't be too hard to move!

Thanks Again!!

I had a 2002 coupe for 2 years and I miss it. It was more civilized. I have a 2006 Z06 that I traded in the coupe for. I get the feeling that the Z06 is trying to kill me . you have to drive that car every second and cant be distracted as it is very unforgiving. The C5 was nice but the C6 is better

I had a 2000 coupe before getting my current 2011 convertible. The LS3 is a monster.

PAULEB07 02-05-2018 07:20 PM

Went from a 2002 to 2007. Never looked back!!!!
