Performance Shifters and Shifter Boxes

We replace the worn torque tube and shaft bushings for a tighter, smoother shift than factory. Use with your factory shifter or any aftermarket shifter for the tight smooth shift you want that won't wear out.

https://mail.google.com/mail/e/1f4a5Delrin Torque Tube Bushings are stiffer than polyurethane or factory rubber but dampen vibration and road noise better than solid mounting.

https://mail.google.com/mail/e/1f4a5Factory shaft is reconditioned, bushings are replaced with #SKF Needle Bearings and seals for a smooth shift that will never deteriorate.

https://mail.google.com/mail/e/1f4a5Aditional seals added to keep debris out.

I rebuilt my first shifter box on my C5 about four years ago, (at about 80k) the car has almost 200K on it now. I did my C6 about 30K miles ago and I've done four other C6's as well. I've seen terrible looking bushings in cars with as little as 40K miles on them and I'm confident enough with the turn out that I'm happy to guarantee my work for the life of the car, no matter what.

Here's a quick video covering the modifications to the shifter box.

Here is your typical shifter box, with 30.000 miles on it.

And some additional pics. Please feel free to ask questions, Shoot me an email or a PM. Thanks

I'm sorry I forgot to add pricing info. The rebuilt box is $160.00 shipped, I use USPS Priority 2 Day shipping. There is a $100.00 core charge. If you send you box in I can have it rebuilt and back in the mail in a day or two.

Is this a kit that I can do it myself? I’m interested.

TMODcustoms 02-18-2018 07:46 PM

No it's not just a kit. I take the factory box and machine away the existing bushings around the shaft and mill a larger pocket to press bearings and seals into. After that the factory plastic end cap is replaced with one I machine from billet aluminum and made to house bearing\seal, not just a bushing.

You can however just pay the $100.00 core charge, I'll send you one and you can send me your core when you pull it out, I'll refund the core charge as soon as I receive your core in the mail.

Interested in how this compares to the lower that comes with the MGW shifters?? I already have a 10 year old MGW and don't know if I want to swing $400 for a whole new shifter to get the benefits of the new lower.

TMODcustoms 02-18-2018 10:26 PM

If you have a stock shifter, an MGW , B&M, Hurst, or any other shifter that only includes the top section than you'll definitely benifit from my lower box. If you have an MGW shifter that includes their lower box then your good to go, the difference between MGW's lower box and mine are negligible if anything. Both lower boxes address the same shortfalls of the factory box.

Looking forward to seeing the difference, mine required a bit of force to move.

Nice looking CNC piece !!

Will this help a stock shifter in a C5, or do I need a shifter also?
Thanks

TMODcustoms 03-04-2018 05:33 PM

It sure will. Stock shifters developed slop very quickly, even cars with as low as 20k miles on them generally have a large amount of slop . This slop is caused by the torque tube bushings as well as the bushings the shifter main shaft rides on. My box upgrade will not only eliminate the slop that builds up over time from day one, it will keep your shifter slop free and tight, for the life of the car.

Shoot me an email, I'm happy to answer in more detail.
