About to buy this car. It has drrilled rotors. I want to know if it is Z51. Didn’t see anything in glove box. Also I’ve been cautious about flood cars. Anyone else have rust on the bolts that bolt the seat in? It has a traction control button. Didn’t see anything about magnetic ride or z51.

Look in the glove compartment where there should be a white sticker with all the options codes on it. Z51 is one of those codes if equipped. Besides drilled rotors, the calipers should be red for Z51 option.

Red calipers are not part of the Z51 package

Looks like this and is located all the way towards the driver in the glove compartment lid.

RealliveMD 02-22-2018 02:23 PM

I'll go back and check but I promise it seems like it has been removed.

What about the rust on the bolts. Do you guys have rust. My c7z doesn't and my trans am never did.

RogerRamjet21 02-22-2018 02:30 PM

I didn't think mine had it either, but after someone pointed out that it's in the door rather than the compartment and in a little recess closest to the driver, I found it.
Mine does not have any rust there, that looks suspicious...

my .02 on the rust is well they are pennies in the picture lol

I'll have to go look at mine, but they do look like corroded pennies, don't they. I don't see any rust on the other visible metal parts of the seat rails either.

Z51 option went away in 2010. It was replaced with the GS model. There is no Z51 on 2010-13 model C6's.

Doesn't have the Mag-Ride because there's no dial in the center, just the traction-control button.

This is also a 1LT package from what I can see. The VIN has an "A". I'd say this is a base Corvette, otherwise it'd have a "U" for the 1LT.

True... Mine has Z51 option with factory gray calipers. I can't tell if the inside of the car has been wet or not. I wouldn't let the 2 bolts you show be my determining factor.. Look farther.

Thanks, I did not know that. It must have come back in 2014 or so since I see it listed on newer models again, yes?

On the C6 Z51 was an option not a model. For C7 I know Z51 is available but I am not sure if it's an option or an actual model. I don't remember seeing any C7's with "Z51" emblems on them but that doesn't mean they don't exist. :confused2:

No, I don't think it was ever a model, just an option. There are Z51 GM approved badges, but you have to buy and install them, GM does not put them on by default (as it's an option, not a model). The previous owner of my car installed a set and they look okay to me, so I'm leaving them. He also said the red calipers were an extra cost option, not standard for Z51, so whomever pointed that out above was correct.

It's possible someone spilled an acidic drink, which might have caused what you see. Easy enough to clean the spill off of the upholstery and carpeting so you might not see any other evidence of that having happened.

Another possibility is salt damage if the car was driven in the snow and salt. The sludge gets on your boots and hence into the car and if it contacts any bare metal, the rusting starts. I don't see a lot of vettes being driven here in the winter (just 2 so far), but the couple that I did see were covered in salt and crud, so it's a pretty good guess that these were daily drivers, and so the drivers were likely tracking salt into the car as well. My caddy was a daily driver, and the bolt heads holding the seat track looked pretty rusty, even though I took great care to keep salt out of the interior.

Any chance you can get some pics of the undercarriage to see if there is much rust there?

gliot1 02-22-2018 04:49 PM

Mine is a Z51 and they did not come with painted calipers, though very easy to do or replace, so don't judge it is Z51 or not by calipers, the build or option sheet is the only way. I am not sure a corroded penny is indicative of a flood car either. I have found pennies under car seats that were corroded that were out of my own car and I know the cars weren't in floods. If a penny gets damp it will oxidize.

Actually, your calipers were painted by a previous owner. Painted calipers were not a factory option on base model C6's whether it had Z51 or not.

:iagree:

Those bolts getting surface rust is fairly common. All mine have had it. It's one of the reasons the vette starts in the 50ks and not the 80ks.

Look for a tidal or water line inside the door cavity or peel the carpet back from the floor pan.
