I've gone round and round with searches - LED guys step inside

Hi,

A really simple question I think, but I can't find a solid answer. Ran a search, checked with superLEDs etc

For discussion purposes, my C4 Corvette uses a side marker and license plate light of #24

Is the #24 bulb swappable or comparable to a T5 or a T10 base?

Easy question I would hope....

a #24 bulb is a T2 3/4 bulb.

Just got some technical info from a few Alibaba vendors and went out to Autozone to verify some options. The T10 was the LED that fits the wedge type #24.

superbright LEDS:

24-AHP: Amber
24-RHP: Red

you will have issues with correct function with the LEDs in the front side markers though

I think Im going to try and tackle it. I see there are hyper flash issues with the installation of LEDs on the front side markers as they alternate with the front bumper turn signals. Im going to leave the OEM flasher in, simply match the stock resistance on all the LEDs to the incandescent load rating. I don't see why it wouldn't work since it would emulate the stock setup ehhhh otherwise I waste another weekend with the car :crazy2: whats new

Because in the normal operation of that side marker light, current flows BOTH ways through the bulb, depending on the mode.

You're going to find you will need to either incorporate a Wheatstone bridge OR use a bulb that is internally configured with the bridge.

And, that ain't all... you're going to have to load circuit in order to restore enough current load to operate the OE blinker, OR replace the blinker with a solid state LED blinker - for BOTH the turn signal AND the emergency (blinker) flasher.

Suggestion: you may decide it is easier to leave the side marker/turn signal bulb "as is". Otherwise it gets complicated perhaps beyond one's GAS threshold.:D BUT, if you like a challenge... this is what -=Jeff=- and I came up with (refer to your FSM):

.

Thanks for the great input...Ohhhh going way back with the Wheatstone Bridge reference, hadn't seen that for a while, over 10 years probably. We used the circuit setup with a variable resistor to balance and find the ohm value/drop across say Rx, all this for alternating front turn signaling lol. There is no chance I'm getting LEDs to flow backasswards and a bidirectional LED wouldn't help here.

I have the LEDs now (delivered yesterday) and several load resistors as I'm forgoing the LED flasher by increasing the LED resistance to match stock.

Im going to play with the lighting and see what I find, hopefully I find my FSM. I think it's doable BUT I wanted to do it as easily as possible without having to cutup or mod into the wiring too much and losing the alternating blinker effect. Tricky d*ck, may not be worth the trouble.

That circuit Paul posted is currently in 2 C4s..

I need to buy more stuff to make a set for myself

Wait, you are talking about the amber sidemarkers on the side of the bumper right? I have them LED. No hyper flash problems.

mate you sure they work as they should with parking lights on and off?

I have been told wiring changed.. based off what I know on the 1990 it will not work

do you have the 1993 FSM? could you post the section with turn signals and parking lights?

curious what changed

Yup I have the FSM. Ok, let me find the diagram:thumbs:

ElisTwoCents 03-17-2018 02:32 AM

Interesting, if so, I hope my 94 is the same. It's been pouring out here so haven't had a chance yet to throw them on

64Scout 03-17-2018 09:43 AM

I put led turn signals on my motorcycle and managed to modify the flasher to work properly rather than add resistors.
