Driving my NEW 66 that’s right now sitting in my garage. |
I was moving from my job at GM as a Production Foreman at Chevrolet-Willow Run to my new job as Senior Process Engineer - Passenger Cars, at the Chevrolet Pilot Line on Van Slyke Road in Flint (where the first 300 Corvettes were built). That weekend was the biggest blizzard in years - took me about three hours to get from the Holiday Inn to the plant (about three minutes in normal weather), and I was the only one there other than Plant Protection. Went back to the Holiday Inn for a couple of days and watched local TV of snowmobilers rescuing trapped travelers from their cars on the blocked I-75 freeway.

I was 10 so I was probably watching Captain Kirk on the tube after school or riding my Lil Indian mini bike. :D

Junior in high school. Had bought a '58 Corvette in April of that year. Had a bad motor and trans. Was a learning bed for about everything mechanical that needed work. Spent hours working at the local Kenwood DX station in Cedar Rapids, Ia. A good place to be when you have a bad drive line. Girl friend "Barney" and I had a lot of fun with that car. Sold it for $1,000 in May, '67. Picked up a '57 for $625 (damaged headlight area) in August, '67, just before leaving for college. Didn't tell my parents that I bought the car. That is another story.....

I was kickin it in Torrance Ca. while the speed freaks were tearing up the asphalt in and around Lions DS. Just a stone's throw away, Kirk, Spock, Batman, Samantha and Derwin were all working hard to hit primetime.
Of course I missed all this because I just turned 1. I blame my parents for not getting together 10 years earlier so I could have witnessed all that good stuff first hand! |
Houston Texas, Junior in High school, driving Moms '62 Impala Convertible, 283 CI. Those were the days.

Perhaps Menomonee Falls, Wi.---around the Milwaukee area. Menomonie, Wisconsin is 50 miles east of St. Paul, Mn and is on the western side of Wisconsin, right off of I-94. At least 300 miles from Galena, I would think.
Just a tiny little town. You just never know who you might run into on the Internet though. |
