Barn Find L89
Hey Guys, found a barn find convertible with a 409 in it. Went to insure it today with hagerty and the vin comes up as an L89. Getting ready to drop the tank this weekend, and hopefully find the sticker. What do you think it may be worth? |
1 million give or take 1 million
You need a ton more info and pics for what you want an answer to. |
VIN comes up as an L89? Really? Sounds like this new guy is looking at scamming a Forum member. Since when do VINs reveal an L89 Corvette? And to boot, that Super Rare 409 motor. Wow..... I'll buy it. Let me know where to wire the funds.

Looks like a 409 engine based on the valve covers or a 343??

If the frame and birdcage are good , 25/30k range. On the gas cap area in the rear, push away the rubber and shine a light down and you should see if there is a tank sticker. After you clean it up, you may be closer to the 35k range. The way cars are selling now, you dont know what someone may give you for it.

I would put it back in the barn. It’s gonna take a pile of cash to bring that hog back to life
|
Any one here on the forum would love to find this. (I've seen worse finds on this forum so go easy on this guy)
I'd clean it and get it running. I wouldn't get to excited and start fantasizing. Check the numbers on the engine and see what you have. Its a cool find. |
I learn something every day....I woulda sworn you couldn't get a W-block (348/409) into a midyear with a can opener and torch.:willy:

to reinforce a previous comment, there is no way on God's green earth that a VIN# will tell you anything about the drive train or options

I was craving popcorn last night, but I never thought I would need it for the forum today? I may need extra butter!! :lurk:
|
BTW: The hood bracket can be swapped to either side.
VIN has nothing to do with engine package. Need the tank sticker to know for sure. Cool find though... |

Thanks for the info guys. Good and bad :) ordered one of those endoscopes, will look around the top of the fuel tank Thursday and let you guys know what I find. I haven’t even begun to clean it up yet...still might be able to find the block and such in the barn. It does have a posi rear end. Just minimal surface rust underneath. |
If it is a 409 (and not a 348), throw a set of the new Edlebrock aluminum heads on it with a good cam and a Holley and it will give most Big Blocks of the era a run for the money.
While clearly not the original engine, if the frame and birdcage are solid it will make an excellent project car, and a unique period piece from the 60's. Good luck and welcome to the Corvette Forum! GUSTO |
Does insure it mean you have already purchased car.
