The Chase for my Uncle's 1964 Red Convertible Corvette

So I've been hooked on my Uncle's red 64 Corvette ever since I rode in it as a 7 year old in the early 1980's. It was then legal for me to stand on the passenger seat while holding the top of the windshield, with the top down, while we cruised through his small midwestern hometown. Unforgettable experience. He also had a gold convertible 1964 fuelie that I never rode in because it was always in some stage of restoration.

He died quickly from an invasive cancer several years ago, and his 2 beloved cars were eventually sold through a broker to separate buyers. I eventually found the guy who bought the red one, and it was also disassembled into hundreds of pieces at the time of purchase, undergoing a restoration that my Uncle never got to finish. The buyer has kept me abreast of the restoration progress that he is making in his spare time, and from pictures it appears he is doing a heckuva job.

Him and his wife seem intent on finishing the car, and then selling it to me! So I am working extra shifts to squirrel away money for it. I'm thrilled I found it, glad it is in good hands, and even happier that I will most likely get a chance to buy it in the next year or so.

The personal connection to this specific car is clearly the difference maker for me. And my intent is to create the same memories with it for my own kids. They already love the old restored Jeep we cruise in - just wait until they get a feel of that red 64 convertible!

Not sure what the asking price will be, but I will be willing to pay more than market value given it's sentimental value. Plus I intend to keep it as a family heirloom, not as an investment.

I'll post some of the pictures he has sent to me below.

I will update as I get more progress pics, which seems to be every 2-3 months.

I have no idea how to evaluate the worth of the car. I will educate myself on these forums as best as possible, but would it make sense to get a valuation done by a 3rd party expert? Do such services exist?

Thanks.

Yes and yes IMHO, and start looking for someone now. Although, if you continue to post a lot of pics, you might be able to get a general idea of its worth. But do so in the C1 & C2 SECTION where the midyear guys hang out. Post a lot of pics there and you will get a good ball park figure of what its worth.

Post here:

Dont be afraid to post a lot of pics and ask a lot of questions.
