Tpms

I reset the system using the DIC prompts yesterday and all went well with the magnet placed over the valve stems except for the left rear? No horn beep confirmation and I re entered the programming three times. Eventually I gave up and went and sat in the car with magnet in my hand. About 10 seconds later the left rear beeped to confirm? This morning I had no false "tire flat" messages for once so everything worked eventually. Is this a sign of a weak battery in this left rear sensor?

You put in new TPMS sensors? What was the date code on them? Do they work properly now, giving you the correct pressure readings?

:iagree:

Plus

1) if you installed/had installed sensors were these new sensors or used?

2) are they the correct style for your car? (1997-2000 or 2001-2004, and NOT generic style TPMS)

It's difficult to gauge battery life based simply off whether or not they'll sync with the RF transmitter. 15+ year old TPMS's with weak batteries still work fine in most cases.

No these are originals as far as I know. I did this because I had the right front tire replaced last week. I wanted to make sure they were all synced.

I replaced mine last summer in the Corvette. The ones in my Malibu started acting up last fall with intermittent readings, erratic pressure values, etc. and then finally they went dead one at a time. Before going dead, they did all sorts of strange things. Not sure of the year of your car, but if ten or more years the batteries are likely starting to go on them. I got my new ones at Rock Auto, who had the best price.

Originals? Get new ones. If you have a later model car, it's ~$120 for a set of four and their lock nuts from amazon.

After 10, 15+ years they are liable to get flaky.

I added 1999 C5 base to my signature. When will it show up in my posts?

I was going to buy mine from Amazon but there was no guarantee how fresh they were (I contacted the seller). I went with RockAuto for this reason. Just bought a set from RockAuto for my Malibu as well.
