New to me C7 - what drive mode?

Upgraded to a 2016 Z51 with the A8 earlier this week. Still smiling.

I knew before I bought the car that Sport mode would likely be my normal driving mode. But I'm questioning why I wouldn't want to drive in Track mode all the time. Any thoughts on this? Any downside to it?

Go right ahead if you like it. No downsides other than noise and stiffer suspension (assuming it has MRC).

I had started driving in track mode and traction light would come on when I would hit A bump.I switched back to sport. Then no more problems.

I drive in Sport mode most of the time. I tried Track mode but the steering felt more natural in Sport and strangely I get more pronounced backfire pops when decelerating in Sport.

What's the condition of your local roads? Some members here have reported flat tires and bent rims, and attributed it to hitting potholes while in the Track setting.

Had 3 C7s and I drove all of them in eco mode. Sport seemed to stiffen the cars up quite a bit and it was just uncomfortable around town. How is that enjoyable for you folks?

Billy346 03-21-2018 03:55 PM

What specifically do you like about track mode? The ride? Gauge cluster? Exhaust sound? Steering weight?

Some of these can be adjusted in the various menus to customize each driving mode exactly how you want.

Question is, how is driving in ECO mode enjoyable??

Joking aside, I prefer the tighter steering feel, sharper throttle response and louder exhaust tone. Driving in eco mode defeats the purpose of why I chose to buy a Corvette.

You might want to consider is having the Mag Ride Suspension up grade done by your Chevy dealer,it makes the driving experience much more enjoyable. Cost to you is $350.00. The software up grade changes the whole personality of the cars ride.

I drive in Tour or Sport mode all the time. Afraid Track will bend wheels or damage suspension. Plus Track rides too rough unless the roads are perfect.

kenownr 03-21-2018 04:17 PM

I think most of the members responding use sport mode. Besides if you select track mode, when you get out and restart the car it will default back to sport or tour (I forget which). I now mostly drive in tour because if I get on it a little bit the transmission (A8) doesn't go to the PTM mode and hang the gears when it perceives you want to go racing as it does in sport or track mode.
As Billy said above I use the menus to lock the steering feel to sport, the display to sport and the HUD to track mode with the "hockey stick" tach.

I don't have NPP or MSRC so for me, putting it in track mode doesn't seem much different than sport mode at all. The steering and throttle response are very close between those two modes as far as I can tell. Shifting of the auto trans seems the same to me too. So I just leave it in sport all the time since if I put it in track it will just default to sport when I shut it off anyhow.

That being said, this car is still relatively new to me (it has 1600 miles on it now) so maybe once I've driven it more I'll try out track mode again and see if I notice a bigger difference then.

Vote for Tour!!

I use Sport anytime dry over 60*, which is most of the time.
Tour in dry 40-60*.
Weather for 40* and below or wet any temp.
Never use Eco, because, well just because.

Since I don't track the car, I only use Track on very smooth roads or when going over speed bumps in a parking lot.

If you have Magnetic Ride, Track Mode could result in a bent rim hitting a pothole. If you don’t have Mag Ride the suspension setting is the same in all modes.

I drive in sport mode with exhaust and steering in track. I feel like the traction control is the right balance on the street.

orca1946 03-21-2018 07:15 PM

I like sport most of the time.

KCV 03-21-2018 08:26 PM

Sport mode all the time.

Kevin A Jones 03-21-2018 09:09 PM

Sport mode for me. Love the feel on a winding country road.
As others, I would be hesitant to drive in Track mode on anything except smooth roads.
