Are Rear Splash Guards Necessary For Grand Sports and Z06s?

I will be receiving my new Grand Sport in about three weeks.

I already bought the splash guards for the front wheels to help prevent chips in the body work. When I bought those I did not buy the rear splash guards because I did not think they are necessary to prevent chips in the body work behind the rear wheels.

Are the rear splash guards necessary to prevent chips? I am thinking they are not necessary.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Yes, I installed them in my GS a couple week ago, they do help, install in minutes.

I think yes, just drive 900 miles from the museum and if I didn’t have them I think I would’ve had some road rash.

Also think of cars behind you. Tires are ultra sticky and throw up a lot of rocks and debris. When i went on a cruise with couple friends they had to stay back far because wheels were throwing up rocks bad. These will help

Yes our tires certainly do toss back rocks onto tailgaters. I plead guilty to occasionally being a dick & drifting slightly to the shoulder to let them know it's not cool when they get so close I can't see their bumper. SORRY:D

Yes, You need them. We have them on our Z06.

Yep. They do make a difference. Back there though you could probably get by with just PPF if you wanted to.

What are the preferred/recommended brands/options/versions of C7 GS SGs?

Kevin A Jones 03-25-2018 11:43 PM

I prefer the OEM GM splash guards as they do the job, easy to install and look like they belong there.

Any aftermarket recommendations, I like Real Carbon Fiber not just blackish plastic???

orca1946 03-26-2018 12:15 AM

ACS look a tad wider but, $149 for splash guards ??

You need PPF on the rear diffuser otherwise it will rash really bad. Flaps won't help unless they block the entire rear tire.

There are a couple of threads on here about cheap, cut to fit splash guards for the front (<$15). They're not carbon but I have them on my Z06 and with the side skirts I have avoided rock chips to the rear rear of the rocker panel. If I didn't point them out you would never notice they're not OE.

I got the OEMs from CULTRAG...

Perfect fit, super easy install.

I installed the GM splash guards on the rear of my Z06. The guards have an OEM-like appearance, and while they are only slightly wider, they surprisingly deflect a lot of debris.

djnice 03-26-2018 09:34 AM

Most people don't look under the bumper behind the rear tires on the diffuser. The entire rear diffuser gets beat up. The rear splash guards only protect the side of the car, which doesn't really get hit by rocks on the Z06 because the body work gets narrower behind the rear tire.

I need to find my 2006 Vette papers to get info on those splash guards. Do I remember Altec?

Splash guards

im thinking of a set for my 2018 stingray, dealer wants $150.00 for the set, says I’m looking at $300.00 installed. Sounds steep to me, is this the average? Do the wheels have to be removed. Would appreaciet any suggestions.

So, as I mentioned earlier, I went the cheap route with the O'Rielly flaps up front. No tire removal required. I'd buy the parts you want and do it at home.

NashvilleGrandSport 03-26-2018 06:02 PM

No need to remove wheels. 10 minute job. There is a single screw at bottom and snap-on clips. Simple.
