Oil Filter bypass valve is important
 

Everyone recognizes that the PF64 is the correct oil filter for my Z06, but I was surprised to find that many of the aftermarket brands list an incorrect number. The PF64 has a 22PSI bypass valve, while the PF48 and equivalent have a 15PSI valve. Before you say this doesn't matter, look at the service bulletin that I attached.

I wanted to get a good filter, such as a WIX. WIX has a replacement for the PF64 with the correct valve (WL10290) but it's not available anywhere that I can see. Be aware, many places say the WIX 57060 is correct, but that has the 15PSI valve.

So for now, I'll put a PF64 in it.

Outstanding find!!!! I have been wondering what the heck was the difference between the PF48 and PF64 series oil filters as both use the same mounting thread pitch. This thread pitch is different from the older 44 & 46 series filters to prevent interchangeability.

I have been using the 57060 it also fits many other cars. So I can use them up.

Any idea what the Mobil 1 extended performance filter (M1-113A) uses?

Never mind I found it. User "KRACKA" posted it on this forum a few months ago. Anyone interested in the answer it is:

"I received a response from ChampLabs this afternoon with good news. The M1-113A filter uses a 22psi bypass valve, which is the same as the OEM ACD PF64."

So what's the material difference? Does it mean the 22psi version is a stronger case maybe and take more pressure so you get more flow through the filter than the 15psi version?

I been using the wrong filter lucky I just did one the other 5 changes were the dealers.

That's the same as a PF48, so it would be 15PSI. It's a bypass valve pressure setting, so according to the bulletin you're filter would be getting bypassed more than it should, allowing unfiltered oil to flow through the engine.

Ok, the Mobil 1 site shows it the same as a PF48. If someone checked with them and they said it's got the new pressure setting I guess that's what it is.

From what I've read the M1-113 is the one that is comparable to the PF48 which is rated at 17PSI. The M1-113a however is the PF64 related filter which is 22PSI.

To check what filter the dealer installed, look at your ticket. The PF64 part number is: 12640445.

Is the UPF64R an upgrade over the PF64? Can the UPF64R be used on the C7?

No. The PF64 has the correct bypass valve for the C7 the UPF64R does not.

Thanks but what about the different part numbered PF64 oil filter? Dealer is giving me a PF64 with part number 12696048 which is about 1 1/2” shorter than the PF64 that my ZR1 came with from factory. They are saying this new filter replaces all of them and this is what they use.

If it's an updated part number from GM odds are good it's fine. They make that filter specifically for the cars that require the higher PSI bypass valve. Or you could buy the old filter on amazon for 7.41. https://amzn.to/2Duf42S

Rockauto has the Wix WL 10290XP. Delivery was quick. My local O’reilly’s also had the correct
Wix filter but not the correct Mobil 1 0w-40 I gad to go to dealership for that. I doubt we will ever find this oil at Walmart.

I bought the old filter from Amazon.

The new filter is much smaller, there is no way its being put on my car unless someone here confirms for a fact thats okay:)

Another option to consider. I've been using the Amsoil EA15K50-EA which has the proper bypass for our LT4 and is one of the higher rated filters that is readily available.

I just emailed Amsoil regarding the technical information for the EA 15K50 filter and I'm waiting for a response regarding the relief pressure.
