Bit the Bullet on F55 Shocks
 

All four of my F55 shocks on my 2004 coupe are leaking. I found new replacements at RockAuto for $1,600.

Getting ready to replace them, is there anything special about the actual replacement that I need to know?

As an option...I've read in posts (haven't done it myself) there's a way to trick the computer and install regular shocks and save yourself $1,300+/-.

Damn, $1600.00 for shocks??? Ch**, Hope I never need them...

Now that I think about it the guy I bought the car from told me he did the shocks and If I recall he said something about the Z06... Ill have to ask him next time I see him...

Op nobody answered your question. These install like regular shocks but have sensor connectors on them. Just note the position of these when u take the old ones out, the shock should go right in which mean a few cuss words will make them fit better!

F55 is Tech2 only. the simulators do not work on F55, only F45.

If I change out the F45 Shocks to C6Zo6 Shocks and drive say 70 miles or so and have it tuned out, will i get reduced power or 80 mph cautions? or will there be no problems.

Once you replace them you have to unplug them from their harnesses so yes you will get an error saying reduced speed and also shocks inoperative message. You can drive to get them tuned out you just cant go over 80mph. Tuned out means using a tech2 or installing sims/resistors. HPtuner or LS1edit will not remove it.

Thanks guys... I plan on getting the rear end changed to the 3:42 and figured I'd change the shocks before I take it so I could get everything (tuning) done at the same time... Don't believe I'll being driving in excess of 80 on the way there... on the way back might be a different story.

I can see the electronic shocks being worth it on a daily driver, especially with rough roads. Just depends on priorities.

It should be as simple as unplugging the old shocks and plugging the new ones in.
