Tire and stock wheel question
Currently looking at a new tire setup for my 2019 z06 that arrives next month.
On my 2016 z06, i use a 19inch forgeline setup with toyo r888r's on the rear in a 345/30/19. Traction is great and i want to go with the same tire for my 2019 z06. My question: I noticed that Toyo now sells a rear tire in a 20 inch, but the size is 325/30/20. Would i notice comparable traction if i went with a 325/30/20 on the stock 20 rim vs a 345/30/19 on my forgeline as my rear choice? As it stands right now, i get traction in any gear with the 345/30/19 and i don't want to lose that if i go 325/30/20. |

Bumping this thread, wanting to know as well if anybody has any experience with this.

I wouldn't mix zp tires in the front with non zp tires in the rear. On top of that I don't know which tire has the best handling characteristics but you always want the best handling tire in the rear. Driving on the streets and highways the R888R will not get anywhere near its optimal operating temperature as the speeds are not high enough so their grip level when turning may not achieve the same level as the stock fronts.
Here is what Toyo has to say about them: BillToyo Tires recommends the following general setup guidelines for the Proxes R888R: -Operating Temperature: 160°F to 220°F You will not get close to the 160 degree temp running normal highway speeds anywhere in the country. At 80 mph you might get 130F.-Hot Inflation Pressures: 32 to 38 (psi) -Camber: -1° to -3° Probably can get by with less than -1 degree as long as you don't go around corners fast -Caster: As much positive as possible From Toyo's standpoint a front only recommendation not sure how it translates to C7 rear caster. |
I'm given to understand the 325/30/20 is too tall. There's another thread that talks about this, but no one says with 100% certainty. I CAN say with certainty that the 325/30 is taller than the factory 335/25. If you're not lowered at all, it might be ok. I don't know if they can answer for sure or not, but I'd call tirerack and ask them. They have specs of tolerances for factory wheels. They may know, or they may just say "that's not the factory size so we can't recommend it, but I don't know". Worth a shot. As far as the traction question goes, 40mm of difference (20 per tire) shouldn't make a significant difference. Most of your "extra" traction is coming from how much you're putting down front to back, so if you just lower the air pressure a few psi, that would more than make up for the lack of width.

I have R888Rs in 325/30/20 and am stock 4x4 height because I like the peace of mind of not scraping on practically anything. I can say it doesn’t mess with any of the T/C controls or stabilitrac or whatever nannies are on the car. The coldest I tested I want to say is 75 or 80 degrees and held almost WOT in first gear but not quite (have an M7 with just a CAI). Second gear it held WOT starting at several different speeds. I can’t recall the size difference with the height, but still a substantial gap to the wheel well. As far as width, when I put the stock ZP tires on top the Toyos they looked identical to each other width wise. Anyway, hope this helps someone looking into the toyos, I’m very happy with them. Oh and also got caught in light rain and did just fine. Also forgot to mention that was with air pressure around 32/33psi. -Jason |
