Are you waiting to dump your C7 for a C8?
Will the C7 used market be flooded with the arrival of the new mid engine vette?
Anyone just waiting for the C8 to hit the show room? Who will be the first to jump on one? thanks! |
With few facts and much speculation to go on at this point in time I plan on holding on to my 2019 Z06 M7 Convertible.
So far the C8 is rumored to be a hardtop only, automatic transmission only, less than 650hp and have not seen for certain what it looks like. For me to move on, I want a Convertible, a manual transmission, and some kind of high performing engine, that at least matches the Z06. |
As a Z51 M7 owner here, I plan on keeping mine no matter what else I buy later.
|
I am sure I will buy the C8 when it comes out, but not initially. I have learned from many years of Corvette ownership that they will make improvements to the package several model years into the generation and that's when I will move on from my 2017 GS, which by that time will probably be 5-6 years old and ready for the upgrade.
|
Just got my 19 GS going to keep it 3 years and go to the c8
|
I'm not going to "dump" anything. The C7, IMO, is the best Corvette produced and now it's my labor of love. I'll reluctantly sign over the title and hand in my keys for the C8. When the C8 is available, I'll wait a couple of years for the Z06 version to 1) be available 2) let a year pass as the bugs are worked out.
|
No.
|
If the C8 is to the C7 what the C7 was to the C6, then I will fall all over myself stumbling to get my keys off the hook fast enough to drive down and trade it in.
But I think the C7 is already "so good" that it'll be hard to make another revolutionary jump like that. |
As a person that had a 05 M well known DBS car I will not be buying anything in the first year. It took the children at GM almost 2 years to find and fix the problem. I kinda got tired of listing to the service advisors and manager tell me I did not know how to shut down the vehicle.
That is why my present ride is a 15 rather than getting a 14! With all the new stuff going into a C8 if I get one at all it will probably be in the third year. |
I'll wait for a GS model

No!
GM (Pontiac) Fiero (mid-engine) production 84-88: 370,167 GM Fiero recalls: 740,334 yes, GM recalled every Fiero twice for engine fire problems Ferrari Mid-engines: Recall Number 09V048000 Recall Date 02/06/2009 Component ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE Summary FERRARI IS RECALLING 1,950 MY 2005-2007 F40 SPIDER VEHICLES. THE DEFECT INVOLVES THE HYDRAULIC HOSES FOR THE CONVERTIBLE TOP THAT ARE LOCATED INSIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE HEAT FROM THE ENGINE MAY CAUSE HAIR-LINE CRACKS TO FORM IN THE HOSES WHICH MAY RESULT IN FLUID LEAKAGE FROM THE CONVERTIBLE TOP HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. Consequence THIS LEAKAGE IN TURN, WILL CAUSE THE CONVERTIBLE TOP WARNING LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE AND IF NOT REMEDIED, COULD ULTIMATELY LEAK FLUID INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAUSING SMOKE AND A FIRE, RENDERING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE AND POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH. Recall Number 10V389000 Recall Date 09/01/2010 Component ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING Summary FERRARI IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 458 ITALIA VEHICLES. THE HEAT CREATED BY THE ENGINE COULD CAUSE POSSIBLE DEFORMATION OF THE REAR RIGHT HAND AND LEFT HAND WHEELHOUSE AND HEAT SHIELD ASSEMBLIES. THE ASSEMBLY COULD COME EXCESSIVELY CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM CAUSING THE BONDING ADHESIVE USED IN THE ASSEMBLY TO OVERHEAT AND PRODUCE SMOKE. Consequence UNDER PARTICULARLY HIGH AMBIENT OPERATING TEMPERATURE THIS COULD CAUSE THE ADHESIVE TO IGNITE, RESULTING IN A VEHICLE FIRE AND/OR RENDERING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE AND POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH. What Owners Should Do DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE EXISTING HEAT SHIELDS AND BONDING ADHESIVE FROM THE RIGHT HAND AND LEFT HAND REAR WHEELHOUSES, AND INSTALL NEW PROTECTIVE HEAT SHIELDS ON THE RIGHT HAND AND LEFT HAND REAR WHEELHOUSES. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FERRARI AT 201-816-2600. Recall Number 15V881000 Recall Date 12/28/2015 Component FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS Summary Ferrari North America (FNA) is recalling certain model year 2016 488 GTB vehicles manufactured September 9, 2015, to November 6, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with a low pressure fuel line connection that was not properly coated during manufacturing. This may cause a fuel vapor leak during engine start. Consequence A fuel vapor leak during engine start increases the risk of a fire. What Owners Should Do Ferrari will replace the low pressure fuel line assembly connection, free of charge. Affected vehicles are located in dealer inventory and will be remedied before customer retail. The recall began on December 18, 2015. Owners may contact FNA customer service at 1-866-551-2828. I want a sports car, not a firecracker. NTM the "luggage" compartment under the hood of these mid-engine wonders usually isn't big enough to carry more than a toothbrush, much less a fire extinguisher! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...8c18c18dd3.jpg |
There is no way to know what the C8 will do to used C7 sales because no one knows enough about the C8 - if it were 600 hp, with an M7 & A10, luggage room comparable to current C7 Coupe all for $60k and an 750 hp version for $80k (what the current base Z51 & Z06 sell for), it would be easy to predict C8 will cause many C7 owners to dump their cars.
More realistically, the C8 will be significantly (15% minimum) more expensive than a comparable hp C7, and it may be considerably more than that. The typical Corvette buyer is not the 35-45 y/o hedge fund manager making $2-8 million a year; instead it is someone with their life in order who has stretched a little (maybe more) to buy their dream: a $65,000 Corvette. |
Let's see, should I buy another Vette, given:
|
No Manual envisioned; won't look significantly better based on renderings, just a bit different; and an estimated $80K base starting price. If all the above turn out to be correct, I am glad as hell that I got my C7 which to me is a stunning looking and performing sports car, plus I have two more years to enjoy it.
|
No. My base stingray is my bucket list car and another is not in my future.

If history is any indicator, the first model will probably be the base. I would be absolutely shocked if a roadster is not released sooner rather than later. There are many, many fans of Corvette verts. GM knows this...they are heavily invested with the Corvette. It is their halo model. They will NOT make the mistake Dodge did with the Gen 5 Viper and not release a convertible. |
No Thanks.. I'll just keep my C7..
|
I just add to "the collection". I've done too much to my Stingray to part with it!
|
at like 150,000 base price for a c8 i don't see a flood of used c7's coming on the market. Face facts unless your RICH it won't be happening.
