A personal question for current owners...
 

I'll dance around the impoliteness of asking directly...How much are dealers getting for the "dealer price adjustment" after the haggle?

One dealer near me (Orange County CA, unfortunately in this case) mentioned they would be marking up $8-10k over sticker and another dealership's sales manager wanted to add $20k (before the salesman hurried over after he left and said don't worry about that number!). So what are people actually paying for their ZR1s?

My dealership in Kansas City (Hendrick Chevrolet) is selling at MSRP. Do NOT buy from any dealership charging more!

Unfortunately, and I don't know if this phenomenon is common elsewhere, but in OC (and LA I'd imagine) the dealer markup seems not only common but apparently supported by customers (via sales). My friend was looking to buy a Raptor, was at the dealership ready to trade in his Alfa, and they were asking $15k over sticker for the Raptor. He flat out refused to pay that, and they wiggled a little to bring the markup down to $6k over but he refused, willing to pay MSRP (as opposed to % over invoice). Their retort was that Raptor demand was so high they went through their allocation months back and were now selling ones purchased from other dealers in lower-demand markets that they had to buy at MSRP themselves (lying? a salesman's lips were moving). Anyway, cut to the chase and we walked out and he let us...with 12+ Raptors sitting on their lot.

Placed an order today for MSRP. F mark ups.

My dealership Rick Hendricks Chraleston gave me MSRP nothing more. I didnt ask for more at this stage in the game. Good luck!

My dealer agreed to do my ZR-1 for MSRP. No additional dealer markups and no accepting GM friends and family or supplier discounts. I presume that is the case in other areas of New England here but I don't know for sure. Last big dealer markup in Mass. here that I heard about was 20K over sticker for the Dodge Demon last year. Biggest problem I had was finding dealer with ZR-1 allocation. I went through about 10 Chevy dealers to find one but I imagine that will normalize in the coming months. I had the same issue when the 3rd generation CTS-V came out in 2016 as far as allocation goes. But on that car I was able to save around 8k with the friends and family discount.

Thanks guys. I just got back from one dealer. Their Internet Specialist was nice and spent time working up my order even though they don't have any more allocations yet. On the way out I asked him about markup and he said he thought it was $5k as that was what they had on their ZL1, but was corrected by some higher-up that it was $20. To which I told them no way in hell, especially since every current owner I've talked to payed MSRP. He told me that it's supply and demand and that demand is high right now. Which it must be. So he's got my info and said he would call if/when allocation came up, understanding that he's wasting his time if he doesn't deal. So we will see if that call ever comes.

Early next week I'll be going to a less well known dealer, one that sells more run-of-the-mill Chevys. This one told me that they did have 1 allocation, and no one else on the list, so I'm first. Their sales manager that day mentioned $20k, but we will see if they really want to sell the car.

I am a sniper mentality - very, very patient, but also very picky. I want exactly the ZR1 I have spec'd or none at all. In this context, and knowing that I live in an area rife with supercar sales and lots of cash flow, how realistic is it that I can wait out the initial rush and pay MSRP later on - or will the chance to option my own ZR1 pass?

Also, I would be paying via wire transfer, not financing. Does this help or hurt me in negotiations? To be blunt I wouldn't even mind putting down a huge deposit if that meant getting a better deal. I'm an investor and I don't mind losing potential capital gain for a few months at this time in the market. Would an idea like $50k (or more) up-front motivate a dealer to drop their $total? I'm sure it would help their cash flow issues.

If you are in CA, make sure you either get a courteous delivery (Shipped to a local CA dealer) so the DMV paperwork can be done and make sure it has CA emissions code.
