MGW Shifter
Well finally got around to installing the new shifter and must say it is very short and close ratio shifter. Sure hopefor the money it helps with my awful 2-3 shift. Lol. Will try it out later and see. |

I'm not happy with the 1-2 shift. I've made a bunch of changes and I'm getting close to the feel I like. FWIW, my 2-3 shift is near perfect with the MGW shifter.

Try the anti-venom mod.

Finally went and drove it. It’s a little ratchety ( if that’s even a word lol). I definitely like it better than the stock one and glad it picked this one. Lot tighter, closer and most definitely cleaned up the 2-3 shift. |
in every "performance" car ive owned, 1-2 has always been a little crunchy.
Let the trans fluid warm up before doing quick shifts, clean your clutch reservoir and you will probably be fine. |

My 1-2 shifts, at best, are clunky and never precise. What changes did you make?
MGW shifter, ranger method, and fluid change made the biggest difference, but all together each helped. As one poster said, let it warm up a bit. My 1-2 noticeably improves after a short warm up of a mile or so. Hope this helps. |
Thanks everyone, plenty to consider. List and video will be a big help.

Was going to suggest the anti-venom mod but someone already has. I've had the washers for over a year but just did the mod last week. Boy, what a difference. I've had the MGW shifter for a couple of years. The anti-venom mod took all of 5 minutes. It's worth it:thumbs:

Just installed my new MGW shifter (plus lower box) and went for a drive a few weekends ago. Definitely notchy, but love the way it feels. At this time I don't think I'll add any washers to the detent bolt. I love that positive engagement feel in every gear!

The 1-2 shift on my 2012 GS is much smoother than my 2009 Z06 was. I could never get a smooth 1-2 on the Z with stock shifter or the MGW.
Also had 01Z and 03Z both of which had a notchy 1-2 shift. Very pleased with the 2012 and MGW. |
I love my MGW shifter 1st thru 4th. Kind of sloppy from 4 to 5.

The MGW in my vette always throws me off when cold and after driving my Camaro. Compared to my camaro t56, the MGW really feels too stiff.
After about 10 mins of driving, I get used to it again and love the shifts as they are nice and smooth. At speed and warmed up, quick shifts feel amazing. |

I have done them all, and I think the cue ball style knob made the biggest difference aside from the MGW itself. |

just make sure you get it OUT of your mind that you need to GUIDE it into gear.....now that you have a MGW the shifter does that FOR you.....
you will still miss 3rd if you try and place it in 3rd gear.....the return springs will being it back to N and right where it needs to be for 3rd. just a swift push towards the radio and your good!!!!! now enjoy it. |

Like this? With the MGW flat stick, it was the only option (they are telling me the Gripper version is now available though). I have used these and also the Hurst T-Handle and like both.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...54af784262.jpg I shift with my hand on top of the knob, which the stock one made very difficult. The round style just works much better for me. |
The MGW shifter/box feels more positive when shifting into gear. Some might be describing it as "notchy", but I prefer to describe it as "more positive" feel in the gear gate. The biggest improvement is no more 2-3 missed shifts that I was experiencing with the worn (57k miles) oem shifter. After 20k plus miles of driving with the MGW shifter/box, I can honestly say it feels the same as when I first installed it.
More positive feel Shorter throws No 3rd gear missed shifts. |
