285s vs 305s

So I got new 285s on my rear but I heard the stock 19s can fit 305s. So in theory a bigger tires is a better tire for grip. But would I even notice the difference?

The base stock rear rims are 10" and will fit 305 tires with an aspect ratio of "35". However, the 305 tire with an aspect ratio of "30" recommends a 10.5" rim because the tread width is wider and the shoulder of the tire will roll up on a narrower rim. Always check the tire manufactures rim range recommendation.

no you didn't get bad info.the 305/35x19 works perfectly on the factory 10" rim

I went with 265 fronts and the 305 rear and felt a difference. The steering was slower and the car felt more cumbersome. Now this is street only driving and eventually I went back to stock sizes due to the mentioned feedback.

I used 9 inch front rims and 11 inch rears.

Check this out for proper rim/tire combos:http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/ch...rim-size-chart

As the chart shows a 11 inch width rim is needed for a 305 tire.

Yes the 305 tire will fit on a 10 inch rim bit it isn't recommended.

Bigger is better in terms of what?

Tread width = better cornering, but less straight line traction
Height = better mileage, but less acceleration (gear ratio affected)

What tire manufacturer and size are you purchasing or purchased? Look up the rim range for that specific tire manufacturer and size and you will have your answer. Don't cross reference with other tire brands.

My straight line tire traction improved going from 285 to 305 rear tires, same tire manufacture just wider tread width. However, a lower profile tire does not benefit straight line traction. But increasing tread width on the same profile will benefit straight line traction.

Compare the base with Z51 (285 rear tires) and the GS (325 rear tires), the GS resulted in better 0-60 times.

If you're looking for drag radials, there aren't a lot of choices in 19" sizes. 305-35-19 Nitto
NT05R are a good choice

not true.depends on make of tire.M/T spec's 10" rim for their 305/35x19 and 9 1/2" rim for their 305/45x17.definitely can recommend as I go by what tire manufacture spec's and I run both on mine
