Getting a tune, what temps for the cooling fans?

Going to a tuner Saturday. What temps should I have the cooling fans come on and off?

Being a somewhat paranoid type, my Z being a DD, temps here can hit high 90's to low 100's in the summer... I simply asked them to drop mine by 10deg.

Need to know what temp T'stat you plan to run to properly answer that question. yesnod:

I'm not the op, but being as I will be getting a tune soon as well, I have a 160 degree thermostat on my DD, I live in Northern California where it can get pretty hot during the summer. What would ya'll recommend?

I'll play if you're up to another...

180* stat. Dewitts rad and fan kit. PWR water pump. Headers and exhaust. Illinois weather. Maggie install coming soon.

Curious how you determine the proper fan temps.

Good info, thank you. Which Mags kit do you have? What kind of power did you see? I have a TVS-2300 and am hoping to get 5-550.

I'm running 200* low off, 205* low on/high off and 210 high on. Works well for me.

160 stat per LPE. They tuned mine for 200, 205. Heads and cam, etc.

I have the above highlighted setup and run 205 low speed ON and 215 high speed ON. I have tried lower stats and lower turn on temps and largely because of the Maggie ( huge heat generator even if not in boost) and the fans are constantly on at speeds below 35 MPH. I prefer not to have the fans always running and I have found for my setup that a 180 stat and 205 ON for low speed avoids the fans being on except in the hottest of weather. Engine temp in normal driving on the highway is 195 plus or minus a degree or two. In traffic the temps are around 202 plus or minus a degree or two. When low speed fans do come on temps quickly drop back under 200. I'm satisfied with that operation on my car.

At higher speeds on the highway or track the engine temp drops to under 190 even with the maggie in boost. Suspect that the increased air flow through the radiator is responsible for the drop.

thanks. i'm trying to sort out whether to do 160° or 180° with my TVS and soon-to-be-installed KillerChiller... but since i also occasionally drive when it's cold out & could likely get stationed back in SD in the future, it sounds like 180° would be better so long as i upgrade radiators, right?
