Procar Rally seats in a C3 - has anyone done this?
2 Attachment(s)
I am building a vintage race replica based loosely on the 68 C3 DX cars. I also plan on doing some autocrossing with the car. I would like to keep the vintage look in the interior. My question is this: Has anyone installed, or attempted to install the Rally seats by Procar? Picture and dimensions are below. I went seat shopping today and was very impressed by the comfort and lumbar support in these seats, as well as the extra support these side bolsters offer. They definitely fit the vintage look I am going for, and look much better than I thought they would from pictures. However, the side bolsters are 22" at the widest point, and that may be an issue. Also at issue is the height of the brackets that procar makes to mount these. Looking for some info/feedback. Thanks in advance!

The width of the original seats is 19", 22" will definitely be tight.

Brackets can always be modified or lower made but 22 wide might not actually fit.
|
The orig C3 seats have very little padding and side support for a very good reason. The distance from your ass to the roof!
|
Those seats are too big and too comfy. Do they have a massage feature? Racers probably had one Kirkey. I had one but swapped it out for Recaros which were a very tight fit.
Somebody here built a car that looks like what I think you want . You should look for it. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...3e33c14604.jpg |
Way to wide-anything more than 19 1/2" really won't work.
Something like this will fit- and has a vintage look https://www.jegs.com/i/Cobra-Seats/2...-BKBK/10002/-1 https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...1aa45506cf.png |
Also you may want to look at these seats: http://classiccarseats.com/weightanddimensions.php. Some are in the 19.5" neighborhood.

This looks to be the build I was thinking of and here are the Kirkey seats

The problem with high sides goes back to ass-to-roof dimensions and getting in and out of the car.

I went with Kirkey's for x-cross and track days, but made them removable so I could still run my factory seats if I wanted to take the car on a road trip or just cruising. You have to be a bit flexible to get in and out, but I'm over 6' tall. There is no way to look graceful getting in and out of the car with the Kirkey's installed though

I have pretty much made up my mind that I'm going to go at the kirkey vintage buckets. I will be running a quick adapter on the steering wheel so that it can be easily removed, that should help with getting in and out. But I'm sure it won't be graceful. LOL

I had a seat just like Jasons and support was excellent. Removable steering wheel sounds like a real plus. I fashioned an aluminum adapter plate that mounted to the stock holes. Then I put the bolts in from the bottom so that I could quickly exchange the stock seats with the Kirkey. Spin four nuts off and on. Maybe 5 minutes.

Thanks for all of the feedback. Jason, what seat bracket are you using? Is it a slider? I am looking at brackets from Corbeau and Wedge, with double locking sliders, as I will not always be the one driving the car. I still intend to have the kirkey rear mount, with a few easy to remove bolts for when the seat needs to be adjusted.

Just to mess with your head, here's my current setup

Ha! I just pulled the trigger and ordered a Kirkey Vintage bucket/cover/rear support/bracket to try out on the driver's side. What are you running for your harness bar?
|
The Kirkey is a better seat for autocrossing so I don't think you'll be sorry from that point of view. The bar is a "Sharkbar" from vetteworks. On another ongoing handling thread, I've learned that their current design differs from mine a bit..
|
I'm familiar with the Shark Bar, but yours is mounted differently than any that I've seen previously, so that's what threw me off ..

Is this a current Recaro and where did you get it/them?
Thx, Dave As to installation, very tight so be careful. I wanted the tilt feature so I could get better access to the rear compartments. If I get some time I will rummage through my receipts and see what I bought and edit this.. Seat seems to be still available, look here for instance. I am pretty sure I paid closer to $600 back then but I can't find that receipt. https://thmotorsports.com/recaro/rec.../i-247591.aspx Note - I had to cutoff one of the adjustment knobs in the pivot area to get it to fit |
