Has anyone else discovered this about your chrome wheels?

I removed my front wheels to give them a good cleaning to get the tar and road grime off. After removing the wheels I discovered the outer edge of the inner wheel the chrome was painted unlike the other front wheel.

It’s not a big deal since it the inside edge I just found it interesting.

Chrome wheels on my C6 vert were chrome front to back, I did have to remove the paint from the barrel of the wheels....they were easier to keep clean being all chrome. Going to see if my C7 vert is fully chromed this spring.

What did you use to remove the paint from the barrel of the wheels?

I had some MEK left over, wipe it on and paint wiped off....easy peasy. Any paint remover should work, they sure do look good all chrome and was easier to keep clean. I'm old school...and love my chrome

Would be great if you could post a picture. A semi close up taken with the wheel are still on the car would be good enough. Like to see what they look like all chrome.

When I get it done on the C7 I will post some pics, It was the wheels on the C6 vert I stripped....just hoping these wheels are fully chromed.

I think they are chrome, but not polished like the face of the wheels. I too have thought about stripping mine back to the chrome. I have seen C6 grand sport spripped down to the unpolished chrome. What is the MEK U spoke off for stripping? Thanks

I spray painted the wheel barrels gloss black. It hides the dirt and the slightly smother surface is easier to clean.

The chrome against the gloss black looks good.

The barrels are definitely painted. On the one inner edge that is painted I can see the chrome in the spots they missed painting.

MEK-Methyl-ethyl-ketone is a very effective chemical, we used it in the Army and it worked great for cleaning (stripping) metal cases. We would strip and repaint the missile systems units, better looking than some Depot equipment......Just get some good paint stripper and the rims will clean up good. When you look in the wheels with the chrome barrels they look wider than they are.
