steering rack differences, is it all the tie rod length???
 
If tie rods were removed from theses two steering racks would they be the same??

A "base"/slow rack from an 86 & a base/slow rack from a 91 zr1 (yeah they came with slow from what my reesrch shows) would they be identical in terms of fittings sizes and orientations if tie rods were removed?


if so, could the tie rods and ends off an 86 be threaded into the 91 rack housing and it will fit on the 86?

looking for any feedback from people who have done this.

No, the rack shaft lengths from the 86 rack is different from the 91 rack shaft lengths. The 91 will be longer, which will change your bump steer.

We can rebuild and repair steering racks. If we can be of service, let us know.

Picked up a 90 with a cracked rack and pinion housing. All the local part suppliers have a rebuilt gear on backorder with no expected fill date. Found a 84 at a u pull it yard. yes the rods are a different length, but interchange without a hitch.
