GS.

GM f'd up and should have made the zr1 the GS scheme, then they would have never been over looked.

This is interesting information. I'm shocked actually, but pleasantly surprised. I feel the C4 Zr1 is a serious piece of GM heritage and is over looked.

I think in the end the GS car will end up commanding more of a premium since its 1 year only.

ZR1 will always be up there though.

GS is more flashy and rare. ZR-1 is oviously has the much more impressive engine and subtle wide body.

I would be happy to have either, but I think the rarity of the GS would make it more expensive. If I had to choose one I would go with the ZR-1 (you can always paint it to look like a GS)

ZR-1....All day

That was GM's entry level step up to the exotic realm when they produced that car, and it accomplished a lot. It certainly saw it's share of fanfare the world over. I'm a little bias having owned a ZR-1 previously but, that certainly doesn't detract from my opinion of the LT4 GS, which is a very capable car.

The GS having been produced for only one year will keep the prices premium but, going up against a decent '95 ZR-1 in comparison, the ZR-1 will be more valuable....Just my .02

They were all 6-speed manual with the LT4 engine.

One of the reasons they command a higher than normal price is Chevy was smart in giving them a unique VIN.
Easy to "clone" the paint scheme, but not the VIN.

I can't say which is more valuable right now, but I had a choice at the time, and went with the GS. Yes, it's slower, but not by much because it's much lighter in the front (did you know that the LT5 engine, due to its complexity, weighs more than an all-iron big block?), which is why the GS handles and stops quite a bit better. The ZR-1 is more of a 'muscle GT', vs the GS' 'sports car'.

But those points only matter for a car that you're actually going to be driving. Collecting is a whole other universe. A ZR-1 is obviously more 'exotic', but is also more common. I think ultimately, history and the market will be kind to both. The only question is: how long it will take for people to recognize C4s for what they were at the time? It'll happen at some point.

It wasn't just a cosmetic package either. The car also had ZR brake rotors with better (stiffer) calipers than the ZR's, and ZR-sized wheels/tires.

John Heinricy was the GS's lead development engineer, but he was also a road racer. He wanted to take his GS (he owns GS 001) racing, so he made sure all GSs coupes were well up to the task. It ain't just a pretty face.

If I'm not mistaken all J55 brakes had the same rotors. :thumbs: As for the calipers I can't say but the GS caliper looks great and I have them on both my ZR-1's.

All 1996 Corvettes got the J55 13" brakes, with the same calipers.

The only difference in the GS calipers were the Black paint and "Corvette" name on them.
